Kiffin is Mullen 2.0
Kiffin has his issues and a likely ceiling, but I'd say he's more of a Brian Kelly 2.0 than Mullen.
Mullen was fricking garbage.

Give him adequate NIL and also hire real big time assistants.
We do that, we can raise his ceiling and maybe even help him get over the hump like Sark seems to be doing at UT.

I'd take Lane at this point, but the he's lost some luster for sure.
Ole Miss apparently gave Lane all he asked for re: NIL, Assistants, etc. He said before this year that this was his most talented team he's ever had.
Since SEC play started this year Ole Miss offense has been mediocre, last 3 games:
96 Rushes for 327 yds, 109 yds/game
60-111 54% Completion for 760 yds, 253 yds./game
23 pts./game
For comparison to Dumbo Billy in SEC play (against tougher opponents):
124 rushes for 435 yds, 145 yds/game
54-89 61% Completion for 658 yds, 219 yds./game
27 pts./game
Not saying Napier is better/the answer, but Lane may not be the savior we all hope he would be.
Their games against LSU was almost a mirror of ours, left a bunch of points out there in the first half, screwed up OT badly to lose it.

I'm glad Lane has lost some luster.
We won't have to grossly over pay for him now.
I would've been bittersweet about overpaying him considering how cheap we could've gotten him in 2021.
No he's not the "savior" and no one out there is.
If OSU fires Day, there's criticisms about him. Cignetti has none so far, but he's literally coached against 5 trash cans as a P4 coach. No chance for him to be exposed yet.
I think Cignetti might be good, but look at Bama. I actually think Deboer is a very good coach, and is a good comparison to Cignetti in terms of background. Say Cignetti is as good as Deboer, Kalen is struggling at a Bama program that's in much better shape than us.
Point being, every available option is filled with Flaws.
Dan Lanning is not an option, no way we can get him, but I see people clamoring for him after he beat Ohio State who are complaining that Lane hasn't won "a big game" and are forgetting, besides the fact that there's no way he leaves Oregon for UF, that Lanning always lost big games until this past weekend, where he faced a coach with a rep for losing every big game as well. One of them had to win this weekend

Sark was "7 win Sark" and lost to Kansas in year 1 of his time at UT.
I think we can have some success with Lane IF, and this is the big IF, the boosters and admin get behind him.
Will it be enough to get him over the hump? Maybe, but also maybe not.
Regardless, I think he's shown the ability to grow throughout his career: from a punk idiot to someone who can at least run a decent program that's tough to beat.
If someone can bring us to that point, we need to take it before worrying about championships and stuff like that.
Funny thing, we thought we had someone capable of it with Dan, but he proved to be too incompetent. I get why there are Lane and Mullen comparisons but Lane has shown some growth throughout his career where Dan shows none. That alone, I think, is enough impetus to give Lane a shot here. We have nothing to lose. Really, at this point, I think it's Lane or bust. Cignetti is interesting, and I wish I could get behind going after him, but we've had way too many busts with these "up and coming" coaches that I think we can't afford another experiment.

quote:Not trying to nitpick or start and argument, as I agree Lane isn't a "savior" or anything, but Charlie Weis JR and Pete Golding aren't exactly top notch assistants.

They're better than what we're used to with retards like Mullen and Napier hiring their buddies, but they are lower end assistants imo.
quote:The similarity in OT I agree, that was a bad series in OT.

Lane had some bad breaks in one of the toughest road environments at night, and yes left points, but he didn't have the game served on a platter like we did.
Brian Kelly is a good coach and LSU is a solid team. I have to be honest, this Tennessee team is garbage, Nico sucks and huepel is not a great coach with a gimmick offense.
I think Tenenssee will fire him in a few years, but he's been better than what they've had so he will stick around, but they'll get tired of him, and it will happen sooner rather than later.

There is no perfect or can't miss coach out there.
Kiffin is the one with the best chance for a fast turn around. He is great in the portal and his Gator fans will love his wide open offense. He will be a refreshing change over what we have had to endure for the last decade.

For him to be successful, boosters will have to provide the cash to make it happen.

This is the guy we need. He wins, Google him.

if we don't get Kiffin, all options are on the table.

He is intriguing, and seems to have potential.
Although it would be nice to have a coach who recruits and fans don't have to google for once.

"It's simple, I win. Google me." vs "Scared money don't make money, you know?"
I can see Cignetti falling flat on that saying while walking the Florida sideline.

If Billy does get fired which i thi k he is not and wil be here next year.
But if he does and Kiffin says no
I'm not big on either
Cignetti or Fisch
I'd much rather have Chadwell then anyone else. if Kiffin says no which I do not think he will.
If yes
I hope he leaves Golding and Weis Jr in Oxford
