BUT he may not reveal it. He isn't trying to hide it from rivals, just wants the other two QBs to go hard and think like starters.

Also, Reel, this might come as a big time shock to you......but it's also possible that Mullen needs to see more from the QBs.

You always think he's got an angle, but I think Occam's Razor helps us here.

I'll paraphrase some high notes from paywalled sources:

Trask was better than Franks tonight, though both made some good throws and neither threw an interception. Some sources say Trask has been better through camp to this point, others say they expect Franks to be named the starter. The consensus seems to be that the true starter will be determined after both see some in-game action. The offensive line seems to have a pretty solid starting 5 and while there is a significant drop off in talent, there are a handful of guys who are solidifying the 6-8 spots on the depth chart. Linebackers are still weak in pass coverage, but there are a couple who appear at least capable this year. Umstead Sanders has gotten good reviews in general and has played above the level one would expect from a walk-on. Preferred walk-on Jaylin Jackson had another big play as he did in the previous scrimmage. This was an update separate from the scrimmage pertaining to Quincy Lenton who tore his Achilles last week. Coach Savage was really torn up about it because Quincy stood up and tried to run it off on the next play, which is practically unheard of for torn Achilles. Savage felt it really reflects on his desire and drive to be out on the field.

Thanks! I think both Trask and Franks will see a decent amount of action in game 1.

I think it depends on the next week and some change. As I've already said: Trask has won every scrimmage so far, and I think that's how they should determine who starts first. If he starts to flounder, we try Franks.

If neither QB pulls ahead, then yes, they'll split snaps going into week 1 and probably week 2.

Franks struggled

first string OL was fine, the rest was bad.

Zuniga & Clayton played well.

"Lots to clean up" but Mullen has confidence in the team,
so take that for what you will.

Would be surprising is Mullen was able to name a starting QB after tonight, and thinks this team will struggle with road games. sure sounds like Jones keeps improving, which is nice.

Trask threw 3 TDs. Other people state he basically looks fine, to "much improved," to stiff with his reads. In other words, I think, he's the "not flashy" or "game managing" type. If I had to guess, Trask is the exact type of QB McElwain would've loved at Alabama. Your Greg McElroy type.

Running backs looked good. Pierce ran with the second team. D. Green looked good.

sounds like our first string corners sat this game out, so uh. Take that for what it's worth regarding the QBs.

How is Richard Gouriage coming along? I’m very curious as to how he is progressing. He’s a big dude that I hope has a nasty mean streak in him.

From what I've heard: The backup offensive linemen are no where near where they need to be, but they are progressing.

I haven't heard anything specific to Gouraige, but I know that they aren't where they should be.

That’s to be expected with some of the younger guys having 3 OL coaches in 3 years. I’m hopeful that this offense can bring out their ability in some. We have some talented lineman. They just need good coaching. Also not terrible play calling

The good news is that we know Dan Mullen can help them a lot by keeping the defense completely off-balanced by playcalling. He was often critiqued for his lack of playcalling at MSST but I mean, really, look at the difference at the skill positions.

Krull, Van Jefferson, Grimes, Cleveland, Toney, Copeland, Swain, Hammond, now Green. It's just so much deeper and stronger at Florida. He will have a lot more misdirection.

THe RBs are also way better. Scarlett, Davis. Damn.

Mullen has never had a RB group this talented and deep.

WR group has tons of proven playmakers.

TE has zero proven production so just a little bit will be a improvement.

The big questions are OL and QB. Got to have time to get the ball to the playmakers. Playcalling is key to cover up our weaknesses.

I think the OL is good until someone gets injured, like I said: their backups aren't nearly as good as the starters. There's a big dropoff, so hopefully we can rotate them in and get them situated by the end of the year to crush FSU at Ron Zook stadium.

QB, we just have to wait to see. They won't be asked to do much.

When Mullen was here he got so much crap for his play calling. Dive left. Tebow right. Etc. Oh boy how our tune has changed lol.

He is like any other coach in that the offense will only go so far as the qb can take it.

The rbs are good but this is not the 2008 Alabama ol that can just shred people and protect a bad qb uf will have to have balance.

Edit: That being said, if they achieve some kind of balance in their offense, this team could be pretty good with the skill position talent they have collected.

UF fans were all spoiled by Spurrier still. One of the greatest playcallers of all time.

Now UF fans are used to a half hearted play action fake on 3 and long because our idiot coaching staff do not prepare for that game situation when it happened more than not.

I'm excited for a new offense, for sure. I just think it's funny that a man we used to curse for predictable play calling is going to come in and somehow be unpredictable.

I don't think I ever complained about the offense when Mullen was here -- I was still young but even watching the older games I didn't think it was anywhere near the level of MSST when he was calling plays.

Adazzio I definitely remember, and I remember how little creativity and how the playcalling fell off of a cliff.

I didn’t complain either uf ran it down people’s throats. Addazzio was a huge step down.

Not really...

Meyer and Mullen changed the offense in 05 after the LSU game, then did it again in 08 after the Ole Miss game.

07 was a wash just because Tebow and Harvin were so damn good, and the defense was just meh.

Addazio ran a BMW in 09 right into a brick wall. That was brutal to watch.

I think we'd be okay being in the top 10 for scoring even with lackluster playcalling.

I think Mullen will give us a top ten offense, it will take some time, but I think we will be able to outscheme most of the East without breaking a sweat.
