Go back to drinking...you dont know wtf you are talking about. How old are you? You might want to look up scores of the past 35 yrs of openers and you might be surprised at how many were close games mixed in with blowouts. Did you think Umass was just going to lay down?

We will be fine... just drink heavily and atke 2 aspirin in the afternoon.

I never once felt wew were in danger of losing..we dominated both lines of scrimmage. Do we need to get somethings fine tuned? Sure...but the players are no different than fans..they think we will win by showing up against a "inferior" team....happens all the time.

UF DL completely dominated the game - UF is better in the front 7 right now than they were last year.

They are going to put some QBs in the dirt this year, and running room will be hard to find, if they stay disciplined.

They struggled to stay home early in the game.

Offense had a bunch of WR's out (lewis, worton, massey barely played, cleveland, etc) Powell and Callaway missed all of spring and are still gelling. Hammond and Swain were getting their first game action.

Del Rio was getting his first start in a football game since high school.

A lot of moving parts.

Stuff that bothered me
- all the tinkering with the RB rotation. For the love of god just pick two and go with it. Scarlett looks like the guy to me.
- 50 drop backs to pass (44 attempts) in a game against UMASS. That seems ridiculous to me. We should have run it 44 times and passed 29, but live and learn.
- The OL was hit or miss again and Fred Johnson is fricking terrible.
- Chris Williamson isn't ready to be a starting SEC corner. Gardener looked much more comfortable as a true freshman out there at corner. It'll be very important to UF's season that Dawson, Tabor, and Wilson remain healthy.

Good stuff:
DL is ridiculous.
Davis and Anzalone are going to be monsters this year.
Safety position was salty as hell and we are good there.
Young guys played well all over the field.
Taylor is going to help on the OL.
UF HAS A GOTTDAM KICKER.

Get ready for Kentucky now.

We were playing a team that won 3 games last year. Mac isn't the answer. His staffs lack of preparation and recruiting will do him in. LDR looked decent. A game manager. WRs dropped balls. Johnson had no clue who to block. The defense was undisciplined in key spots again. Before Reel points out we won 10 games last year, I will point out he parroted WM winning 12 games and we almost played for the NC up until almost the very end. We may win the east this year again by default, but that's like getting laid in a retirement home, is it something you really want to share with your friends?

No I wont point that out...you lost me with the above statement of McElwain not being the answer. Gee, I didnt know there was a question. The only thing most folks are unhappy about is the score not big enough for them...me too TJ...Id rather see us score at least 45-48 pts.

I agree with the previous assessment of throwing ratio to run plays....way lopsided...like 29 runs vs 49 throws, but I think it was by design to get Jake a lot of timing experience. I know one thing...his passes were almost always straight to the WR and Im sure some WRs were not exactly where they needed to be. Watching some early games on TV Del Rio looked like the second coming of Johnny Unitas compared to the inept QB play I saw. The OL had some issues and its not just Johnson...even our right side miffed a few assignments...it happens.

We held UMass to 1.3 yds a carry and our defense smothered them. They are not that bad and last years record is just that...last years. They should win more than 3 games this year. We had Duke Dawson out for all the second half and part of the second qt...Tabor out and again, I agree with assessment of Williamson...he is not close to being ready.

I found a lot to like and everything is fixible...UK gave up huge yds against Southern Miss and we will see how our run game evolves...I still think Coach Mac wants Del Rio to develop a lot of timing in the passing game to help us down the road.

It's a little early for me to jump off of the Mac wagon.

But LDR did say something concerning after the game - about not forcing big plays because it leads to turnovers.

That sounded too much like Muschamp for me to feel comfortable.

The whole game had a weird, disjointed feel, the offense rotated so much it was obviously treating the game like a scrimmage. One thing Mac does that annoys me is not take our weaker opponents seriously. UF almost lost to ECU and FAU last year.

UF was left to once again rely on defense and special teams.

Good news is that both of those units look solid.

Hopefully Worton and Lewis come back ready to go, and Massey isn't too hurt, and guys like Cleveland can sort out their legal trouble because UF needs those guys in a big way.

One other head scratcher - the first game of last year UF had 600 yards of offense and 61 points against New Mexico State - a team about as good as Umass. Maybe even better, it's hard to say. And I would argue that from a talent standpoint UF is ahead of where they were in 2015 on offense.

That only leaves coaching as the culprit - which is kind of scary. Unless Umass really has improved a lot over last year.

This is a good point when you consider his pocket presence.

I think a few variables went into lastnight.

Weather, lots of drops and slips.
New WRs and QB, will take time to get timing down.
Young oline still has to jell.

If you think lastnight was terrible, go watch some Treon games. Youll feel better instantly.

Del Rio not only getting his first start..but a lot of players were getting baptized and most did very well..I saw Kylan Johnson play a lot and he probably got at least credit for a 1/2 tackle and chase the QB a few times.

Zuniga is a bonafide beast and will cause nightmares when inserted on the DL...didnt see DL CeCe, Jordan Smith or Justus Reed on the field but maybe I missed them, Massey, Swain, Hammond (he and Swain were solid) played at WR Jawaan Taylor at OT...speaking of OL...remember that Ivey, Jordan and Johnson played as true frosh last year and it takes more time to develop as a OL than ANY position in football...I have had several friends who played at UF as OL and it isnt easy folks. Good news is that we can run the ball against UK a lot and give RBs & OL the chance to develop.

Kicking game which many dont pay attention to, is the best in the SEC..Townsend avg 44.5 a punt and Fast Eddie is a jewel....I really think he may hit a 60 yder this year.

Oh...forgot that Putu played some also late in the game and showed quicks as a CB.

This team has the chance to develop as a unit and take on the hillbillies in Knoxvegas...I think our defense can smother Dobbs and force him into mistakes. We have two games to make improvement and get timing down on offense.
ANY negative comments about Mac is laughable imo.

I was at the game. We didn't throw the ball down field because we were playing in a hurricane for a majority of the game.

Kicker obviously a bright spot.

Haven't gotten To rewatch the game yet, but I'll have more thoughts afterwards. I thought the defense had wayyyyyyy too many self inflicted wounds. That's correctable.

The offense was weird. Del rio wasn't bad, in fact, watching in person, I thought he was pretty good for a first career start in a hurricane. The runningback rotation will be down to three guys after this week, and having back Worton and Massey and Lewis and Cleveland in the coming weeks will help.

I can't remember a game having more costly penalties than this one. It seemed like it was something on every play. Frustrating.

I'll post my thoughts on the OL when I get a chance to rewatch the game.

But we'll be fine. Mac's a good enough coach for me to think we'll make adjustments and improve and be fine. Go Gators!

Now don't go putting things into perspective. Everyone knows it is time to fire Mac and hire Spurrier effective immediately. I'll have none of this rational analysis business!

I went back and rewatched every single offensive play from last night.

ATL is right. The offense just seemed disjointed. Playcalling, OL missing assignments, the RB rotation on the FIRST DRIVE (4 of them, wtf?), the dropped passes, etc...

Now... Upon 2nd look, I don't THINK we looked as bad as I originally thought. Definitely better than whatever we showed in the Michigan, Alabama, and FSU Games.

But UMAss is literally the WORST FBS team in the country. The WORST.

That is a little concerning. And I place most of the blame on McElwain for that.

No, I blame McElwain for a lot of the sloppiness in the opener yesterday.

UMass played very well and Whipple definitely can coach.

But some of the mistakes were simple things that are inexcusable.

Slayer pointed out that McElwain did a lot of similar things last year vs. ECU and FAU. Definitely 100% spot on as it pertains to last night.

We need to improve a lot but it's to early to be calling for coach Macs job. Hopefully the struggles were from the weather and rust. We will know a lot more from the UK game. Almost everyone seem to struggle in week one. If the OL can get better then the offense should improve a lot.

Honestly, we've played down to the competition so often the past several seasons that I don't know what to think.

I know our team is better than the performance they put on yesterday. I also know that talent doesn't matter one bit if guys keep making stupid penalties. That game should have easily been at least 21-0 at the half.
