no undefeated season this year, fellas.

The team that came out the 2nd half was fricking great, but that 1st half defense and offense sucked a nut.

Few positives to take away:

We've finally found a QB worth a damn, Orth played really well minus 1 play that entire second half.

Gotta give kudos to John Hoke and the staff for their 2nd half adjustments, defense played lights out until the very end.

Settled for too many FG's in the red area as well.

However I'm not looking forward to UGA next week, even if they don't have a QB.

Orth or Nunez should be the starter for the rest of the year. Mitch doesn't have it, and it's time to simply cut bait. This has to be Spurrier's last year. 33-6 without a NY6/BCS game is the benchmark for whomever is walking the sidelines next year.

The program is at a serious crossroads. UK and UTK have both lapped USC, and UF will come back online sooner than later. The next hire is beyond crucial. Let's hope Tanner does a better job with that one than he did with Holbrook.

Spurrier's play calling inside the 10 was atrocious. Seemed like he was relying on too much misdirection and trickery. Had it not been for that it could have been a different outcome.

Also, Orth needs to be the starter. Aside from the stupid pick he was solid. If SOS still sticks with Mitch I may be done until he retires.

I don't know if Orth played better, or Spurrier finally figured out what they were doing on defense. Or did well, except for that one play, but kentucky also went into prevent defense.

This is what's amazing, two games, two second halves and 0 points.
We only allowed one 1st down the 2nd half, (except for the last drive.)

If we can find a way to get that defense to play like it's the 2nd half all the time, we'll win a lot more games.

Alan Knott cost us 7 points, getting the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when we were 1st and Goal from the 2 yd line. Honestly, that play and the missed field goal in the 1st half were the difference.

Everybody is going to try to open up running on us. Hood ran on us, Boo ran on us, I would be shocked right now if we could stop an above avg Div 1 RB running on us for 100+ yds.

Still, we find a way to beat georgia, even in shitty years like last year. I no longer feel strong about next week, but I won't be shocked if we beat them either.

Anyone else think it's possible that Ward is calling the first half and Hoke has the second?

The difference really is that stark.

When it's this drastic of a difference, I can understand your point, but I don't think we allow Whammy to call the plays anymore. I think Hoke is just really fricking good at seeing what a team does the 1st half and then letting the players know/making adjustments.

The gates of hell were completely open the first half and they ran wild, but then the 2nd half, our defense got tighter than a vice grip, we weren't giving up shite. I think the Orth INT sucked the wind out of the defense's sail though.

It's not against the law to make adjustments on the bench during the course of a game.

I agree, we're making good half time adjustments ... but we need to make some pregame and in-game adjustments as well.

Mitch is history. When he heals he needs to transfer. It's the Orth/Nunez show from here on out.

Knott's penalty was totally unacceptable.

Also, our coaches in the box should have challenged the Kentucky fumble. It was a fumble ... he wasn't down and the instant replay clearly showed as much.

Sean Kelly has the potential to become a real weapon.

Hated that Fry missed the 42 yarder.

We were only in that game yesterday because we were in The Cock Pit. Had we been on the road it would have been ugly.

We have zero momentum right now. There is a negative feel to this football team. Someone has to step forward and be a leader ... especially on offense, quickly.

I'm beginning to doubt Deke Adams' and Whammy Ward's ability to coach the DLine. They keep getting gashed ... it's gotta stop.

Our secondary has got issues as well ... why we are not pressing is a big concern. These soft zone coverages are a nightmare.

Lastly, the kid from Kansas needs to get his act together. He made three costly mistakes yesterday IMHO.

Orth was definitely better. There really is no question. Agreed with scrooster in the other thread -- Mitch was a deer in the headlights.

Great teams don't kick field goals when they get inside the 10.

And they damn sure don't do it 3 possessions in a row

The decline of our d-line started when Deke replaced Brad. Even with exceptional talent at UNC and his first season at USC, his lines have been poorly coached and underperformed. He is a recruiter; not a coach. And neither he nor the rest of the staff is getting it done recruiting.

I think Spurrier is done after this year, especially if this season ends up being a repeat of last. It's glaringly obvious that there is no direction or leadership, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. We haven't had a system or identity over there since about 2006. Run game coordinator, pass game coordinator, Spurrier's interjections, multiple play callers, can't get signals out on time - it sounds like the coaches don't have a clue what's going on. How are the players supposed to? He just looks like he doesn't have the desire anymore.

Anyone with working eyes can tell you that we are a much better offense when we are pounding the rock. Same thing last year. Yet we still keep slinging it around for sake of "staying balanced" or whatever. There were drives last night where Kentucky literally got in the same formation and ran the same play the whole time until we stopped it. They did it last year with the Wildcat too. That's called putting your players in position to win. If I were Wilds, I'd be pissed too. He's a proven 5th year scholarship player, and when it comes down to crunch time in the red zone, Spurrier trusts a walk on QB in his first real game more? If his ego stroking keeps up any longer, he's going to lose the team, if he hasn't already.

If we can find the end zone when we get into the red zone, I think we can be a decent team with Orth starting. Our WRs worry me though.

We have it, it seems like "we the people" see it and know it. It is called a running game. Marcus Lattimore, Brandon Wilds, Mike Davis, David Williams, hell even Connor Shaw had magic legs.
Yet it seems to me that the whole "chuck it down the field" identity is constantly forced onto the scene to the tune of square peg/round hole ad-nausea.

I hold the staff accountable for that miss.

it was a completely avoidable rushed attempt if our astute coaching staff would have used one of the 3 first-half timeouts they carried into the locker room.

instead, they chaotically run Fry out after a bad 3rd & 4 play from the K17 that lost 7 yards. add in a starting QB struggling to run off the field injured and likely out for the season. the vibe inside W-B was immediately engulfed in the "oh shite, here we go again" we unfortunately know all too well.

there was no reason to hurry a 42 yard kick on a running play clock with all the raw emotions around the stadium after the failed 3rd down play. take a timeout and restore some order and control. the players had to feel it coming down from our fans.

a made FG cuts the lead to 17-10 and likely eliminated any need to attempt a two-point conversion later in the game - which was a disaster unto itself watching our staff scramble on the sidelines trying to corral players celebrating and instead get back on the field for the PAT attempt. we saw how that turned out.

the worst thing that came from our sidelines, however, was the 1st & 10 play from the K37 immediately after Pharoh drew a defensive holding call to move the chains. a pass.... with 4:44 remaining and 2 timeouts in tow....................

be thankful y'all were in Hawaii, Rooster. Saturday's nightmare was best viewed 4700 miles away from Cola.

Good observation 1801 ... the more I watch the replay the more strategy mistakes I see.

It is disconcerning.

And CNB, I agree on the WRs too ... but the more I watch the replay the more it looks like one major problem.

Jeffrey is running bad routes, missing key blocks ... basically just going through the motions. Not to mention the dropped balls.

Losing the two guys early may have hurt us at WR more than I realized.
