I was out of the office and a buddy texted me and said Feldman was reporting that Rich Rodriguez was in Columbia today for an interview... Y'all are on top of this stuff!

Thoughts on Rich Rod? I don't want him, but wasn't he hired by Bama and then backed out?

What is it with USC and retread coaches? I don't like Muschamp or the idea of Ritch Rod. If we're gonna go full retard down this path lets do it with a bang

This isn't that difficult, ugay isn't keeping Pruitt so just hire Riley and make Pruitt the highest paid dc in the nation, Pruitt's contacts can aid in assembling a staff that will be highly successful recruiting in the southeast.

I really hope this has crossed ray's mind.

My Michigan friends hate Rich Rod ... hated him almost from the minute he got there. The big knock on him was he is arrogant and immediately wanted to change everything, traditions, styles, etc.

West Virginia fans still have a contract hit out there on him somewhere if I am not mistaken. For a slow death.

He's done well with the players he inherited at Arizona ... but he fell off this year, to 6-6 I think. He's been vocal about AZ being a basketball school and not a football school so he has not endeared himself well with the fans there recently.

He's 52 years old. He wants to come back to this part of the country. It's been suggested that he tried to get the Va Tech job.

I just have my doubts about us being serious with this. My HR wife, with major connections at SC, is telling me that this is more of a formality that anything. He sent in his resume so we are obligated to give him the interview.

So still, the bottom line is ... I guess, ::::: sighhhhhhh :::::

We've got three on the short list and we were supposed to be down to two by this point in the original timeline. At that time we figured it was going to be Herman and Fuente. Fuente failed to vet-out so we came to assume it would be Herman and Smart. LSU threw a wrench in the gears, along with our loss to the Citadel, and Herman backed-out. UGA fires Richt and Kirby goes up in smoke.

So now we're down to Muschamp and Riley plus maybe, maybe, Rich Rod.

Muschamp or Riley, Riley or Muschamp.

The logical move, from an age and stage and experience standpoint if I am one of the decision makers ... is gonna be Muschamp. It's just starting to look that way to me. The whispers are getting louder and, just in the past few minutes, I am of the understanding that Muschamp is making calls to possible assistants and also had a long talk with Spurrier either yesterday or early this morning. That indicates to me that it is going to be Muschamp ... or at least he feels like he is going to be offered the job soon.

Riley ... the drawback is age and lack of HC experience. Otherwise he would be perfect but the lack of HC experience is a biggie considering it was almost mandated from the beginning (by the powers that be) that we hire someone with HC experience.

Rich Rod might be fun ... but I think he's a little too eccentric for some around here. Not quite on a Spurrier level in terms of quirkiness, but enough so that he might come across as a mini-Spurrier, and I'm not sure that would be a good thing at this point.

If I had to put money on it right now it is going to be Muschamp. Just too many people are saying too many good things about him right now to ignore. He's got some big names calling on his behalf ... nothing but solid references, ex-players that love him, coaches who have coached with him who might be willing to join the staff ... I just see too much scuttling-about and commotion when his name is mentioned not to think there is something up with Muschamp. There is even talk among some of the returning defensive players already ... which makes me think something is going-on over there that might indicate this is all but a done deal.

We'll have to wait and see. I can't get anything solid out of anyone, but I know there is at least one coach of ours who seems mighty relaxed all of the sudden, like he may have received a call ... who knows. We'll see.

Rich Rod is the bottom of the barrel. Tanner will go down with that ship.

If its going to be Muschamp, lets do it. Just need to make sure he hires a capable OC.

And as for the coach who is starting to seem more comfortable, I am guessing that you are referring to Mangus?

Just Reporting info
Brian Hand from Spurs and feathers was on a local radio show this afternoon in Savannah. He didn't say much but here are the highlights. These are Georgia guys asking questions.
Asked about Interest in Richt, pretty much said yea richt was thought about but that's it.
Asked about Mushchamp, said he was in the mix and then spoke a lot about how he thought things would be different at SC. He spent the most time talking about Mushchamp.
Asked about any others, said rich rod was in the mix
Said RT was out of town today, nobody knew where he was. Speculated that he may be seeing Riley.
Asked who the top three were. Said Elliot was interviewed yesterday, talked about citadel game and Clemson game, mentioned Mushchamp again. He didnt really answer the question.
Asked about timing. Said RT said in the beginning it would be after SEC championship. He thought that's the way it would go.

The guy talks really fast and I didn't get anything out of it other than RT was out of town and nobody knew where he was.
Maybe hiking the Appalachian trail. Sorry, I couldn't resist

Rich Rod has as much of a shot being our next HC as Fedora, I wouldn't take that speculation seriously.

If the Muschamp whispers are true, and if he does manage to bring his right-hand man, secondary coach Travaris Robinson, with him ... then that is a helluva start.

I hope Jeff Scott gets called-out on his bullshite lie like Rumpf did by Spurrier quite honestly.

Find a helluvan OC, hire really-good DLine, LB and OLine coaches and za-zing ... we're in business. Keep G.A. on as the QB coach and Joe Rob on as ST coach ... we'll see.

I wonder who he has in mind for his staff?

How many of Auburn's recruits come with him? Can anyone get me an O/U?

https://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2015/12/will_muschamp_unlikely_to_retu.html

If Muschamp leaves and his right-hand man, secondary coach Travaris Robinson, follows, it could put a serious dent in Auburn's recruiting.

quote:

Auburn's problem this season was offense - Malzahn's responsibility - not defense. The offense scored 30 points or more in regulation in conference play only once against Kentucky.

quote:

Practically, Muschamp leaving now would take away the best coach on the staff, whose defense improved throughout the season and gave the Tigers a chance to win in five of the six SEC games they dropped. LSU was the only SEC opponent to score 30 points or more on Auburn in regulation.

quote:

His departure, if it happens as anticipated, would be the worst thing that could happen to Gus Malzahn.

quote:

Will Muschamp may be the next head coach at South Carolina or the new defensive coordinator at Georgia or Alabama. The destination is unclear at the moment, but sources close to the Auburn program tell AL.com they don't expect him to return for another season on the Plains.

We're dreaming now ... but I get it, I am dreaming the same thing. Then I smack myself back into reality and realize that ain't gonna happen. More like Riley will end-up getting a smaller HC gig somewhere ... Memphis maybe, who knows.

But Robinson, that guy is a recruiting machine. If Muschamp brings Robinson with him ... which it's starting to sound like he might do, then we're talking game-changer. It bumps Muschamp's value up exponentially.

If the sources still aren't clear that we're getting Muschamp, and we're currently bringing in other guys to look at HC....we might end up getting Tom Herman or really start having to look at Tier 3 options.

I want him, Lance Thompson (even with the baggage) and Tracey Rocker too. That Def Staff would be great, hopefully we can also snag the DB coach from L'ville while were at it.
