Houston just put a hell of an offer on Herman's desk. 3 mil a year up to 5 if they go P5 and an extra mil for NYD bowls.

That's a big *if* to get all cozy with.

We're already in the most elite P5 conference..no gamble on whether it happens or not.

Meeting/exceeding their monetary compensation won't be a problem.

Packing the stands won't be a problem here...seems Herman's biggest pet peeve is the lack of fan support at UH.

If he inks the deal, it will be bc he feels sufficiently confident that UT will come'a callin' next year and they won't have a problem divvying up the pay out on his contract.

Oh yeah..we all definitely want to keep up with what's developing with Herman.

No doubt about that at all.

Say what I said on the coaching changes board here as well

quote:

By offering Herman this new contract, UH is trying to force his hand. If Herman agrees to it, he is staying there. If he says something like not wanting talk about a contract before the end of the season, then he is leaving. By offering him this contract, his hand is forced. The next reporter to see him will ask him if he is going to sign the new contract. His answer will tell you what he is going to do

That's pretty accurate. His agent is going to be screaming for him to not sign anything right now. That was just their first offer. If we end up countering with $3.5, they would probably match it, if we get at or above S4M, they probably won't. That $3M is a little more than I thought they were going to do anyways, I was thinking $2.5 initially and then getting up to $3M during negotiations.

Where we hold the advantage over Houston is in Revenue, Facilities, Salaries for Asst Coaches, Recruiting Budgets, etc....There offer was flattering, but we have so much more to offer to get him to the where he wants to be in his career.

The Houston AD is gambling on their season with the Herman contract. Now the players are going to be going to Herman and asking if he signed it yet? The AD there knew that this would happen, he's hoping they can pull on some strings for Herman and make him want to stay.

IF Herman doesn't sign that document, it's going to start messing with their player's heads and that could impact their performance on this undefeated season they're having. They could end up messing up one of the last games or the conference championship, b/c discipline is lacking when players think, 'he gone.'

Herman is not going to be at Houston next year ... I just do not see how.

And you can bet that new contract has a wicked buyout clause.

We're already offering him far more money, and if Texas gets involved it's over.

If I'm Hunter Yurachek I'm already shopping for a new coach.

That's a damn good observation. Offering the new contract now is a desperation move. That tells you where the Herman situation is right now for Houston.

Exactly, if this week goes by and he doesn't sign, he's not going to sign. That's going to create some conflict in their locker room, and their AD had to know this. He's willing to risk their undefeated season to try to keep Herman long term.

$3M isn't going to get it done though, I bet Herman wants more than money (like facilities, other budgets, exposure, etc....) We already have all that turn key for him. Spurrier did a great job on helping get the fans of this program invested and improving the budgets and facilities. #HoustonWeDon'tHaveAProblem

Great perspective. I following @coachingsearch on twitter, and they were pretty quick to report this last night. Also, I was at the Win Anyways Foundation Dinner in the Zone, and Coach Tanner was at our table. He got a phone call and left the event early, so I don't know if it had anything to do with this...

How much are we willing to pony up for Tom Herman? This is a guy who was making just $550k last year at Ohio State. Talk about rising stock!

I was looking up Herman stuff and happened across an article that mentioned the potential for Cardale Jones to transfer here if we land Herman.

How would you all feel about that?

He would have 1 to play 1, b/c he would have graduated. If he graduates in December, that would make sense. If he doesn't graduate until May, he would lose Spring Camp with us. He's a great player, it would make us better at the QB position.

Honestly, we have the scholarships to give, so I'm all for it.

Won't happen. Speculation has always surrounded the QBs at Ohio State since Braxton Miller moved out of the rotation, but there is no way Cardale would leave Urban Meyer and an easy road to another National Championship to play for us.
