I do think he's proven to be better than MusCANT but I'm not sure he'd have made us relevant again.

Let’s just go by what Muschamp did, we can agree that he would have done better yes or no?

For this example, let’s just say the same.
Muschamp took over a team that went 3-9 the year before
Won 6 games and a Bowl year 1, year 2 he wins 9 games and a NYD Bowl win over Michigan.
If that’s Tom Herman, he’s gone after that year IMO

Oh, thats actually a really strong point. So lets look at the players he had in year 2.

Yep, Steve Spurriers "empty cupboard" is what won those games IN SPITE of him that season. Guy can say all he wants, he sucks at recruiting. And I'm guessing Florida auto recruiting players won IN SPITE of his dumbass too.

Meh.
We won 9 games playing a pretty easy schedule too

The east was awful that year
Our 8 regular season wins were
NC State, Mizzou, La Tech, Arkansas, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Florida and Wofford
The SEC teams in that group went a combined 13-35

The Michigan win in the bowl game was mediocre as well.

I also think Herman would have beaten Kentucky and possibly A&M
That would have maybe put us at 11-2
He would have definitely left

there is zero Herman has done that makes me believe he is any better than Will. Will didnt work and we obviously know that, but Herman didnt make Texas any better. He also was pretty good at having some stupid losses so I am guessing things would have gone about the same.

I'll take some stupid losses over all the losses any day.

Did you see latest where herman called ray to "beg" for a job? The "beg" part is unconfirmed but dang talk about burning a bridge.

Honestly many of the kind of main targets in the 2016-2017 failed to pan out: Herman at Texas, Fuente at VT, Taggert at FSU, and Muschamp here.

I know UGA fans expect and want more but Smart is the one major exception to that group.

Smart has done it with on field talent, not coaching expertise. He's not proven to be any better than Richt at this point.

I mean sure, but getting raw and pure talent isn't usually an issue at the schools I listed either.

So you'd want a guy who failed at Texas to coach here?

Nope, just funny.

It was widely reported that Herman turned us down..... at least people think and used that for 5 years as a dig to support a bias.

Now it is actually reported he "begged" for Tanner to hire him.

Just an interesting turn of events.

I could see him calling. Lets be real. Yeah, you've gotta deal with Clemson but that won't continue forever. That defense has been on the decline for 2/3 years now and they're very beatable. Meanwhile all he has to do is be better than Kirby and Merlins on this side. Vs beating the Shrimp Boat Captain, Kiffen, The Pirate, Milky tits, Harry Potter and Saban.

Reporting was pretty solid on this being real.

I agree with your review of the situation.
