Sidney came by and spent some time with us yesterday.

I've known him since he was in HS. Knew well what was going-on with his recruiting. Knew well what was going on when he got here .... watched him finally begin to grow-up when SPURrier got here and read him the riot act.

Test Spurrier ... was checking to see why my phone autocorrected to that just then.

Anyways - Sidney has really changed, really matured. Had some family with him - was really relaxed - very polite and appreciative - came by to say thanks for some things.

Told me what was up with him doing the Gaffney HS thing rather than the South Carolina thing when he went to Seattle.

Told me about his chicken wing restaurants.

Was really good to see him. Seems like he's turned out really well ... and he's proud to be a Gamecock.

Throwing a bone to Gaffney or something else?

Glad he got the loudest cheer in the stadium. Always been one of my favorite players.

Played basketball against him in high school and intramurals at USC. He easily could have played D-1 basketball, as well. Always liked Sid.

Exactly ... felt like he owed them something since they stuck with his family and him through tough times, wanted to show his appreciation.

Upstate ... yeah, no doubt. I had an AAU coach tell me Sidney could play D1 basketball back then ... we thought we were going to lose him to the Gators that weekend. Had Florida offered him we would have ... Sidney had a 44" vertical.

Didn't know about this. Is there one in Columbia?

No they're in the Seattle area from what I understand.

Sid and a kid named AZ Reid made Gaffney unstoppable. Think they won back to back state titles his junior and senior year.

Gaffney is also a big football town. What do they have? 16 state titles. They haven't been as good in recent years though.

I think they're playing on the old Reservation this year.

I failed to mention that George Gause came by as well, while Sidney was there ... and I had not seen George since graduation but the guy has stayed in shape and is doing well.

I gotta say, the great majority of our players actually graduate and go-on to do very well in life.

I wish Sidney would do that - but he's gonna stay in Seattle and I can't say I blame him ... he needs to stay far away from the old Gaffney gang that was such a bad influence in his life back then.
