Caslen is committed to muschamp “until the end of the season”. After that he will evaluate the progress of the program and that a decision will be made from there. He talks about self inflicted penalties and turnovers as a key issue for this group, as well as a lack of discipline and fundamentals. Here is an article where he has a full interview with one of my local papers, read into it what you will.

I do not like the process that Caslen was brought in under; I think it was too political. That said, the General is a solid human being, and I have appreciated his leadership so far. His honesty is refreshing, and you can tell he cares.

Buyout goes from 22 to 18 after Dec 31
So that’s fair

All of the issues he mentioned are 100% on Muschamp and I'm pretty sure he was aware of that when he said it. He also pointed out the buyout like it was crazy which is not good for Tanner. Reading this I think they are both on borrowed time.

Hopefully the news that tanner steps down at the end of the season is true
That’s the first thing that needs to happen

I give Muschamp 72 hours after Tanner has left the position as AD.

That is the "read" I get as well. I can see Tanner "stepping" down, but them retaining Muschamp. It feels like something is going to happen, especially if we get destroyed in our next couple of games.

I am going to the A&M game, since I live here, so please pray for me guys haha.

The way I interpret that is that both muschamp and tanner will he gone and that somehow the buyout will be covered. I was a fan of Caslen from the beginning and I believe that he’s the man that can build the university into what it’s potential is. I think he sees the issues causing mediocrity throughout the athletic department, mainly football as that is where his roots are; and will fix the issues. Hire a real AD, and let that AD find a good coach that will not accept mediocrity.

I agree. I think he will be a good thing for not only the athletic programs, but also academics. USC made alot of progress under the former President, but there is still alot of room for improvement. The rankings are somewhat political in nature, but there is no excuse for USC to not be a top 60 institution nationwide (National Universities). The support is there, the administration just has to keep working on it.

they're going to do an end-of-year assessment, the athletic director does

This confirms the Ray Tanner rumors for me.

quote:

If I wanted to do that — I'm not saying I would — but where am I going to come up with $18 million?” Caslen asked. “There's so much more, as the president of a university, I could do with $18 million than to buy out a coach's contract.

Sounds like Muschamp has at least one more year.

quote:

If you play disciplined football, then you're not going to have the turnovers, you're not going to have the penalties,” Caslen said. “If you're going to win games in the Southeastern Conference, you better put about 30 or 35 points on the board. You only get the ball 10 or 12 times a game, which means you're going to have to score half the time you get the ball. We can't afford to turn the ball over."

quote:

“I changed it at West Point,” Caslen said. “I'm going to change it here at USC.”

Can Caslen just coach our football team?

I think USC has certainly gotten there IMO

Our name nationally has become much larger as a school than it was 10 years ago

There a LOT more USC grads here then there were 5 years ago when I moved here as well

Yeah, but waiting to make a change until after Dec. 31? Jeez, that wouldn't be smart.

Muschamp was hired on Dec. 6, and the fanbase was about to pull it's hair out.

Since 2014, Clemson has won two national championships, four Atlantic Coast Conference championships and five consecutive games against Carolina. According to Caslen, the first priority in revitalizing the program is ending that Palmetto Bowl losing streak.

“It was a failed philosophy at West Point to stop talking about beating Navy. You have to create a culture of excellence, and that's part of excellence,” said Caslen, who witnessed Ellerson’s replacement, Jeff Monken, snap a 13-game losing streak to Navy in 2016.

Army has won each of the past three meetings.

God damn finally someone gets it. This gives me hope.

Is $4 mill really that big in the grand scheme of things? Waiting it out just for that can be the difference between having a homerun or meh hire.

Sure a homerun hire will also be costly, but if there is sudden success it would pay itself off, at least that’s what I think.
