It's how they appoint our BOT members. The state legislature selects our BOT members. In order to get selected, you have to have support from your local legislative delegation or you will not be appointed. So if the House and Senate delegates in your area are pro-Clemson, you are essentially beholden to a group that despises the University of South Carolina. There are too many people in the General Assembly that hate USC that get to decide who and how our university is run for us to ever be good in football.

I wish I could go back to 1801 and tell those guys to put the university in Charleston. The university being like 10 steps from the State House (and in Columbia) is such a drag.
