Gotcha
I wouldn’t be able to know that.
Never seen him play.

B-Mac said that Dakereon told him he will do whatever and play wherever the team needs him to.

Good for Dak.

He’s 6-1, assuming he’d be a WR/pharaoh/Deebo type player?

They haven't said but I'd think WR. Syvelle is being his usual a-hole self and encouraging the transfer portal.

If he wants to be a QB he should
If he wants to play here, he shouldn’t.

I’m selfish so I say he shouldn’t.

I just care what’s best for the team

I'd assume WR with wildcat packages thrown in.

Syvelle Newton is being his usual a-hole self and encouraging him to transfer. That man hates Spurrier so much he has a hard time distinguishing his hate of Spurrier from the love he claims he has for the University and the program sans Spurrier. Said he wished he'd have transferred.

So this was/is a shocker to everyone involved.

Only one explaination, in one word ..... future.

Makes sense.

Too late for Joyner to enter the transfer portal so they basically have five months to convince him to stay.

Doty now has to go ummmmmmmmm .... because of our history with dual threats.

It is complicated now.

It's a smart move if they can pull it off.

Dayum though, it's a big time play.

Werner is behind all of this. Gotta just trust his judgement.

Is it though?
If this kids the real deal he should be the second string

And i wouldn’t be shocked at the ounce of struggle he becomes the starter

If this kids the real deal he beats out Jake.

Real deal prospects do that

When you say Doty goes ummm... what exactly do you mean? I’ve heard from several people that he is a better prospect than Hilinski. I’ve heard he is an absolute dog and a great football player. Do you think he may look elsewhere now?

Hopefully all Doty has heard since he committed is that he looks and plays like an upgraded Connor Shaw. That should be all he needs to hear.

He's not going to beat out Jake. Hell, he didn't beat out Joyner per se. This is about something different.

Look at it this way. Jake is gone after this year. They're not going to do what SPURrier did with Dylan leaving Scarnecchia and Orth with zero experience heading into next season.

At the same time they are taking into account progression based upon time in the system and making the judgement call that Hilinski will surpass Joyner given more time between now and then. It's a gamble but it makes sense.

Here's the risks.

Hilinski doesn't make fast progression. And he is going to be given his chances probably from game one.

Joyner enters the transfer portal in December or January.

They're obviously willing to take the risks because they have Doty on board.

Problem is, and they know this, is that Doty sees this and deduces that he too could be a sacrificial lamb dual threat QB some time in the future like both Urich and Joyner.

Saving grace would be Urich making waves at WR and Joyner buying into the plan that he becomes the next Deebo. Because he is not going to play defense and be happy.

There must be a plan, it's just one helluva gamble.

So what is it about?

And isn’t Dory an actual good Passer too? I mean shouldn’t good QBs that anyone recruits be able to fit in? And the OC tailor make the playbook?

Look at Lawrence at Clemson. Sure he can “move” but he was what a 4.8 40 guy? That’s not exactly wheels. And Clemson was coming off guys like Boyd, Watson and Bryant.

In a perfect World Hilinski lights it up this year next and Junior And is gone for the NFL
Because I think Jake has hit his celling

Doty is not a pure passer. He's an athlete. Werner believes he can clean up Doty's delivery and progressions but Doty is a prototypical dual Threat in the same breath as Urich. Urich's passing skills actually progressed a ton .... but it wasn't enough.

You've gotta have 4 QBs on the roster who can run the offense. A #1, 2 and 3 and a scout team guy.

Orth was a scout team guy forced into the starting role because Spurrier wanted Dylan to break the passing record and Scarnecchia was hurt. Horrible vision for the future.

This staff is thinking into the future.

They've got two solid walk ins right now running the scout team.

They've decided to gamble with Hilinski, declare him 2, Joyner 3, Urich 4 and they are bringing in Doty to be 3 or 4 next year, hopefully keeping Joyner to be 3 or 4, and Urich making waves at WR.

It's a serious power move but boy oh boy is it risky.

If anything goes wrong, and let's hope it doesn't, but could blow up on us next year with Jake gone, Joyner thinking of transferring and Doty wondering what his role really might be.

So what about B-Mac saying today that Joyner said he's willing to play wherever the team needs him?

And God now I'm damn near having an anxiety attack about the prospect of losing Doty.

Yeah I heard that and read all about the coach out at Summerville having a talk with Joyner Monday.

Let’s hope Joyner sticks around. I’m sure they have big plans and special packages they’re promising him.

I think Doty sticks because he seems totally bought in and on board with Werner. Others will really come after him now though ... hell, they already are.

Doty is a stud. Just watch the Myrtle Beach vs. Hartsville game last year in the Lower State championship. He had 300 yards passing and 200 yards rushing against a previously undefeated team that had dominated its opposition all season. He is the real deal.

Also, I’m not exactly sure “if it goes wrong”
Teams have freshmen come in every year and start for them
Are you saying we should have an older guy number 2?
I like this better, get him second, some snaps in games and just a full year in the program adjusting to being a full time college football player

It’s like a RS year without taking the Redshirt. Redshirt Freshmen and first year Qb starters have won the Heisman before.

If Hilinski is as talented as his ratings say he is, this will be no issue

I’m confident in him
