Just for perspective UMass is a worse team than us on both sides of the ball. They haven't recruited any level close to ehat we have, even in the Spurrier twilight years.

Jake Bentley is the best QB we have.

Rico Dowdle is the best RB we have.

Today, we had the worst pass rush and Safety play of any game this season.

We forced a bunch of turnovers and that was good.

We suck at fielding punts.

We can run the ball with Dowdle. Bryan Edwards caught the 1st WR Tad this season....6 games in....

Punter looked good.

Bentley needs more time with the 1's, they need to start building his playbook. The play-calling in the second half was super conservative.

The plan for the defense today was garbage. We had a couple drives where we did stop them, and we were fortunate to get those four turnovers. Overall though they can't be happy with that defensive effort.

Special teams is awful. I'm excited about Bentley, hope we can actually pass block for him against tougher teams.

Defense is crazy. How many 3rd and longs are we going to give up playing off the receivers?

Also, 3rd or 4th and short from the shotgun. I don't feel like I need to say any more.

It's amazing they produce as many TOs as they do. Otherwise we might not have any wins.

Bentley looked really good for a first start. He looked extremely composed and had very few obvious mistakes. He didn't get "happy feet" in the pocket, instead calmly stepping up or to either side while continuing to look down field. He actually was going through progressions rather than just predetermining whom he was going to throw to ahead of time. He gave receivers a chance to make some big plays, and several times he hit the dump off man, getting some yards to help prevent a lot of 3rd and longs. He didn't have any delay of games that I remember, and he did a good job bleeding the clock the last drive. Very positive start, though it was UMass so expectations must be tempered for now.

I really like Dowdle. He's not a Lattimore talent, yet at least, but he's very promising for our future.

The pass rush was worrisome today. Definitely regressed a bit there. We did manage to cause several turnovers though, so that was a positive.

Jesus, let's just put 11 guys on the line and go for blocked punts every time. We never get a return, and at least then we can't have a fumble.

Next week is very important for our guys. We will get a much better indication of how much improvement we have made and where Bentley really stands.

Wanted to get an opinion from some other posters on the following:

-Second half play calling: I don't have a problem with Roper in general. I have been pretty supportive of him thus far. However, I do take issue with the second half of this game. We are up 27-14 I believe and he takes his foot completely off of the gas. Bentley was credited with 26 pass attempts. In the second half he dropped back a TOTAL of 8 times. 2 of those were pass interference calls so only 6 of them counted towards the 26. Of THOSE 6, 3 of them came on the final drive to put it away. If you are starting a new guy and needing to get him prepared for a much better opponent the following week, why not air it out? He's making the right reads and delivering a great ball. I don't understand that or agree with it. If I were to play devils advocate as I usually do, I would say maybe they don't want to show their hand for a possible upset on Saturday. Even still, every program in the country is running it up when they get the shot.

- David Williams: He's a guy that I don't think is getting enough credit for his performance. His averages are higher than Turner's even with his limited touches. Granted the big knock on him is having to constantly motivate him en lieu of being more of a self starter. I think he definitely needs to have at least some touches in every game. He comes off of the bench well. He kinda reminds me of the Duane Notice of the Football team. No one has anything really negative to say about him character wise, there are definitely more talented guys in front of him, but this year when he plays, he delivers for the most part.
