Another year, another likely beat down by our in-state rival. After this year, the series record will be 70-42-4. This is absolutely embarrassing for a school with more students, more alums and more resources than Clemson. I was born in 1985, and outside of the 5-game streak, we've beaten Clemson 6 times (87, 92, 94, 96, 01 and 06). At what point does our administration get tired of us getting our arse beat year in and year out? What is it going to take for this to change? I hate them with every fiber of my being and hate losing to them, so why don't the people in power feel the same way? They seem to be perfectly content having it rubbed in our face year after year. Frick Clemson.

It's not just the powers the be, it's the fan base. I've seen it on this very board... "Well, those 11-win seasons were nice, now we're just back to the norm. Guess we can't really do anything about it...Hope we can get another 8-9 win season. Oh yeah, 1984? That was a good year."

Clemson's mentality is the complete opposite. Yes, it's super obnoxious that they think their program should be ranked up there with the 'Bamas and NDs of the world, but it's a mentality that has allowed them to have considerable more success than us.

This is particularly true when we beat them head to head. It was before my time, but I always heard when we beat them 56-20 in 1975 that Clemson fans were not having it and did what they had to do to not ever let it happen again and they've been killing us ever since. And you've also seen how they responded to our 5-game win streak. You can't tell me Dabo and their entire program hasn't taken that very personally and has enjoyed the last 4 beatings.

TLDR - it's as much on the fans for accepting apathy as it is on the administration.

ETA - I'm with you, it really pisses me off.

I loved the 1975 game. Jeff Grantz ate them up. If you read the ncaa violations against them in the early 80's you will see the timeline, for their cheating, started right after that game .

We need to follow their model.

People know what I mean (no it's not cheating,we def throw that around too---WM is a Saban guy) but some fans seem to be happy with "overall athletic program" (well what I see via internet chatter)

frick that gimme football.

My mamma always said, "If you can't say anything nice then..."

We might win or we lose by 1,000,000. The intensity of my negative feelings towards the less desirable elements of their fan base ranks up there. I'll just leave it at that.

Here's to pulling the upset.

I was born in '85, too, so I share your pain. I am a third generation Carolina grad, so my hate for them runs deep, and it frustrates me more than anything that we can't get a leg up on these guys. They put a 100% focus on football, and it shows. I don't know what happened before my time to change that for them, but from what some of you have said, it seems that they played dirty to put this premium on it.

I wish that we would do more of this. We have boosters who would be willing to - ones with A LOT of money, but we also have a faction of our rich boosters/donors who are 100% against the slightest form of "cheating." We also like spreading the wealth too much amongst our programs.

I have said in other threads that CWM knows what is needed, and I do believe he is willing to play in that gray area sandbox in order to get the guys we need to achieve success. Clemson does it, UGA does it, Bama does it. We have to do it, and we have to start doing it now.

Damn ... y'all remind me of how old I am some times. I've got daughters older than y'all who were born in '85.

I've told the story many times about what Clemson did after the '75 loss ... how B.C. Inabenit was called in and how they went full blown nuclear cheating in football and basketball.

They kept doing it. They've never stopped.

As far as the series record goes, it's important to remember that much of that lead was established early-on in the series when Clemson had a decided advantage of being an all-male military agricultural and mechanical school. Those were the days when Army and Navy ruled CFB along with Yale and Notre Dame ... and they built up big series advantages that are likely to never be overcome.

I made a point on wiki to put things into perspective. Pre WWII, post WWII and then SEC vs ACC.

Note were had evened things out post WWII up until '75 and it was after '75 that they begin to separate from us again ... while cheating their asses off.

Joining the SEC was not helpful to us in terms of our rivalry for the first twenty years really because we had to improve our facilities but we also limped into that game for a lot of years thanks to SEC scheduling where we were coming out of the UT and UF games headed into the Clemson games and we're decidedly more beat-up by the time we got to Clemson.

That's all only part of the issue. This current success Clemson is realizing is relatively new and it will not last. Dabo is due to be exposed, they'll get him on the cheating soon enough.

In the meantime, as stated earlier, we've upped our facilities game and now we have a little bit of success to show ... recruiting is improving by leaps and bounds and our time is coming. Just gotta be patient. We do not wanna cut off our noses to spite our faces.

First step will be keeping it close this weekend ... covering the spread. Making it tough on Clemson.

Next step is closing with a strong recruiting class - and we will.

Next step is we start winning some we're not supposed to win and that is coming next season, I really believe that.

It takes time. Like I tell my kids ... I may not live to see it but y'all should.

As far as paying players is concerned, I can tell you from first hand knowledge that it's rampant out there and expected by the highest rated players, football and basketball. Some call it the price of doing business and no one is innocent. Some just do it bigger than others. It's so hush hush and so well coordinated these days I'm certain it would shock some fans to learn just how screwed up it's become. Phat Phil Fulmer was the most corrupt of all time ... and I've seen some corrupt stuff in my lifetime.

We are aware of just how crafty Clemson is ... but we're getting close, it's just a matter of time now.

Until the playing field is leveled we're just going to have to be smarter about things and we're going to have to trust this staff and be a little bit lucky.

Winning more cures a lot of ills and we're meeting or exceeding Vegas expectations at the moment. At some point consistency will take effect and then we'll be on our way.

Look at it this way. We could be in far worse shape like UNC or Va Tech or even NC State. These used to be peer programs but we've surpassed them, so we're making progress.
