Can we discuss the miracle that was the 2010 CWS run?

Yeah, this is out of left field (pun intended), but think about on the absurd things that happened for us to grab that title.

1) I remember very distinctly CoC getting screwed on a call at home plate that lost them the regionals vs CCU that made us go to Myrtle Beach rather than hosting CoC at home.

2) Christian Walker's 3-run HR in the bottom of the 8th in Game 2. We were down 9-7, 2 outs, and with 2 strikes JBJr gets on base. Fast forward a couple of batters later and Walker blast a 3-run HR (He had two strikes by the way)

Demetra's call. "You gotta believe... you gotta believe.

3) Head to the CWS, lose to Oklahoma game 1. Game 2 we beat the crap out of the 1-seeded ASU (to complete the #1 trifecta after we beat #1 UK in basketball and #1 'Bama in football).

4) Go on to beat Oklahoma in extras with some clutch hitting and defense.

5) For the second time in school history, we have to beat Clemson not once, but twice to advance. Enter Michael Roth, who had never started a game. The man throws a complete game. SC beats two times in a row.

6) We face the Gods among men UCLA (according to ESPN) in the CWS finals. Beat them 7-1 in Game 1 and 2-1 with a walk off score to win the series. UCLA player punches himself out of the game. Final game at Blatt.

And of course, that's nothing to say of the absurd defense displayed in the 2011 title run. Price's clutch pitching combined with great double plays vs the likes of UVA and UF were incredible.

Last at Blatt, First at TD Ameritrade.

eta: We won what? At least 4 games in extra innings between those two titles correct?

It was scorching hot in Myrtle Beach for that Super Regional. And nothing was more satisfying than sweeping Coastal with half of Pelicans Stadium in Garnet and Black and then sweeping Clemson again in Omaha to get to the championship series.

For as bad as Holbrook was as head coach, he was an amazing assistant.

I think it was a bad call at 1st base in that CoC/CCU regional final that hosed CoC, but yeah, thinking back about the improbabilities that combined during that stretch is pretty amazing.

Then Coastal began selling tickets immediately after the game so that they could try and keep the hordes of Gamecocks out of Pelicans Stadium. Didn't work.

Yeah, they got overwhelmed by Clempson fans coming down a year or so before and tried to stop it from happening again.

Didn’t help that CCU and SC already had administrative bad blood from the split (as scrooster tells it)

I know first-hand living in Conway how some CCU folks can be. Horry and Georgetown Counties are overwhelmingly pro-Gamecock, but there are a good number of Coastal people here who hate both USC and Clemson and genuinely believe Coastal is going to compete with them in all forms of athletics in the near future. I grew up 10 miles from their campus and have a sister who's an alum, but they make it hard for me to root for them sometimes.

I was at every single game during that run and it was a once in a lifetime experience. I was talking to Travis several times during the run and he already had a feeling and was working in his mind on a potential book after we knocked-off Arizona.

My point is, there was just a feeling in the air that it was our time. I flew back from Omaha one time between games and we hit some wicked weather that was throwing us around in the aircraft ... I wasn't worried because I figured the Good Lord wasn't going to let me die before seeing my Gamecocks win the title ... and we all just felt it was going to happen.

We had good juju ... it's hard to describe. I can't remember whether it was the bat or the fish, but that was part of the whole vibe. The guys were having fun and they just felt like they were going to win every game no matter what.

But yeah, it was an incredible series of events that occurred and it really all began with that Walker homer. Coastal had the more talented team on paper but we were the Gamecocks and we just believed. One of the best rides home from the beach I can ever remember. The food and beer just tasted better.

Incredible time.

I moderate and edit the CWS page on Wiki ... built all the tables that have become famous there for Most Wins W/O a title, most appearances in the finals, most wins in Omaha, etc. It boosted the analytics in terms of page views on that article ten-fold. Most titles by conference ... man I have fought some wars with PAC editors over that, and won.

It all started when I got home from Conway. I had the ideas for those entries on the way home that day. I never thought though, that would we go on that two year run.

If you'll go to the 2012 CWS page, all those entries about the records we set ... those are all mine as well.

It was just an unbelievable run and it went-on for three seasons ... but it started with that Walker homer.

I had actually forgotten that that 3 year CWS streak gave us the longest NCAA tourney and CWS win streaks of all time. Roth has the most wins in CWS history and Price the most appearances I believe.

That’s how it was at the end of 2012 anyway.

To do what we did between 2010 and 2012 is absolutely amazing. It's one thing to have done it in the 1970's or 1980's when you had the California schools, Miami, Texas, Wichita State and then everybody else. The parity in college baseball makes it hard just to get to Omaha now.

The SEC was so stacked during that run too.

I remember when the final four teams in Omaha in 2011 included South Carolina, Florida, and Vanderbilt.

If I recall correctly:

2010 Regular season conference champ: UF
2010 SEC tournament champ: LSU
2010 National champ: SC

2011 Regular season champ: SC, UF, and Vanderbilt
2011 SEC tournament champ: UF
2011 National champ: SC

The All-CWS team that year were all from the East. I think we placed 6 kids on the team alone, maybe more. I can't remember exactly but I do remember writing that team in on the wiki article and making note of it.
