Bit of a surprise here. It is obvious that if Bentley were to stay healthy, McIlwain would get virtually zero meaningful playing time, but I didn't think it would happen this early.
Not sure how I feel about this. I still think he is super talented, but didn't come into a great situation, and Bentley is just ahead in development.
Haven't really followed baseball yet this year. Is he not playing much on the team?
Anyway, best of luck to him down the road. Our QB depth is once again a worry.

Thought baseball might keep him here.

Same. I was fully expecting him to quit football and finally focus and develop 100% in our baseball program.
I feel like he is chasing a football dream that just isn't there for him and is wasting a great opportunity by leaving our baseball program.

He was one play away from being the starter. A little shocked by this, especially after some comments recently from Muschamp.

I know I may get some shite for this, but I'm glad he's gone. We won't have to deal with his crazy arse mother anymore.

That's one way to look at it. Plus, if he didn't want to compete, then that's not the type of player we want any way.

Wasn't he a highly touted baseball prospect coming out of HS?

Has Nunez made his transfer decision yet? It would almost be worth it to ask him to reconsider. He had enough talent to be a serviceable #2. Even if the passing game isn't there, he could outrun about anyone

Bummer. Best of luck young man.

Couple of things. i completely agree that if you aren't even willing to compete to be the guy then idk how you are going to make it in general. He was a projected 1st round guy who chose to go to college and could still potentially be a top 3-4 rounder or so. but again, not being willing to compete here probably translates to not being willing to compete at that as well.

That's part of the reason that I'm not totally caught off-guard by this.
You just know she's been chirping in his ear to consider other options ever since the moment Bentley got the start against UMass. McIlwain had a fair shot and couldn't get results.
