Well overall an above-solid season for the Gamecocks....both Webb and Schmidt were stout for us, but our batters weren't clutch at all this weekend, after being red-hot last weekend. Still have a lot of excitement for next season with all the talent we have returning....

Solid season is a good way to look at it. Should make more noise towards Omaha next year.

Bad fielding also cost us at least 4 runs in the two games.

the whole season was a mixed bag of good, great, and disappointing moments. Gamecocks were strong out of the gates again this year racing out to a 23-2 (6-0) record by winning 10 and then 13 straight games.

can't say enough about all the first year players who contributed to the turnaround from 2015. the talent influx was needed and it sets things up well for the next couple of seasons.

Oklahoma State is playing as well as anyone in the country in post-season play. they make get to Omaha and '2 & que' but I don't know if any of the other 14 teams playing this past weekend could have beaten them. maybe Florida. Carolina wasn't good enough in the field or at the plate in key ABs to get it done. Gamecocks finished with a .978 fielding % on the season after playing most of the year at or above .980 in SEC play. hopefully 2017 will see more key 2-out/RISP hitting and clean defense in post-season play.

Individually, hats off to DC Arendas for really stepping up his game at the plate the last few weeks of the season and especially in the NCAA tournament. I was one who thought he might should be used in situational play only, but he really showed up as a Senior in his final games in a Carolina uniform. very happy for him.

DC's NCAA tournament numbers; 10 for 20, 5 rbi, 6 runs scored and had 4 walks to get on base. he was 3 for 6 against OSU this weekend, including an 8 pitch, 2-out walk in his last AB to bring the tying run to the plate.

Marcus Mooney went 3 for 4 in his last game in a USC uniform to finish 8 for 24 in post-season play. he would no doubt like to have one play back in the field yesterday, but his last AB with 2 outs and the season on the line showed how much grit he's played with in all his years in Columbia. he turned an 0-2 count into an 8 pitch AB, finally getting a hit to extend the game and Cone a chance to hit. Marcus played in 34 games in 2015 due to injuries. it was good to see him healthy his entire Senior year, playing in 62 of the 64 games. Mooney raised his BA from .213 in 2015 to .314 his SR year.
