I grew up down the road from Wilmington and I would have to say there isn't any hate of the Gamecocks. It's more of the run off of the UNC Tarholes supremacy act towards us.
Maybe so..but I attended UNC-W in 2012-2014 working on a 3rd degree and the Seahawk fans I came across, and attended classes with, were pretty vocal in their dislike of the Gamecocks. Small sample size compared to the entire student body, I realize, but it surprised me that ~3/4 of the ones I had direct contact with voiced their dislike of Carolina when I'd wear anything Gamecock related or when they noticed the Gamecock decals on my car.
On the other hand, it also surprised me how many fellow Gamecocks lived in the Wilmington area. I'd see vehicles sporting Gamecock decals, flying the flags, and wearing Gamecock apparel pretty regularly.
ETA: And you definitely have a point with it being an issue exacerbated by the UNC contingency.

You don't have to eat crow. Had Holbrook lost Regionals, you would've been spot on.
I'm not Ray, so it's Ray's call. However, I've said consistently all year that if Holbrook could not AT LEAST make Super Regionals this year, he should be fired. He made Super Regionals, so he should be safe, IMO.
We have another Top10 Recruiting Class coming in '16 and '17 (both are #10 right now)
If Schmidt and Webb actually come back, we'll have the deepest/best pitching staff in the nation next year. We have 4 Freshman All SEC guys returning.
Holbrook deserves a shot next year to see if he can get us deep into the CWS. The expectations go up next year though.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm fine with Coach Holbrook. It's tough for a guy who's never been a HC to take over such an elite program in ANY case, much less right after that program made it to 3 consecutive NCAA championship series, winning the first 2.
Holbrook had to cut his teeth in many ways with his first year as HC 4 seasons ago, perhaps mainly in the areas of making the kinds of final decisions, lineups, calls for plays in mid-game with big moments on the line - the kinds of things that only the head coaches have the privilege to make. He's rolled some snake eyes a number of times, and it's brought him some heavy criticism. But he's also rolled a few 7s as well...
Now, last season doesn't matter anymore. In 3 of the 4 seasons Holbrook has been our HC, we've made it to the NCAA postseason 3 times, and made it to the Supers 2 times. We've won 43, 44, and now 46 games in 3 of them, and finished no worse than 2nd in the SEC East, with other divisional teams such as Florida, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky included. Possibly the toughest conference division in college baseball.
Holbrook has had one bad season, and I hope he isn't permanently stained from that one season for life with the rest of Gamecock Nation. We were getting a bit emotional about Ray Tanner after the mid-to-late 2000s teams that included Smoak, Darnell, Disher, Havens, etc. that never made it to Omaha. We had a few 15-15 SEC seasons in those years too. Now Tanner is a coaching God to Gamecock Nation.
I'm going to give Coach Holbrook a pass for a while, until he gives me more of a reason not to. He's just given me a reason to give him a break. so I'm gonna do it....

Personally I loved putting John Jones in a pinch hitting role late in the game yesterday after a small break from the lineup. I think that's what his role going forward should be, at least this year. Some time away from the plate may have done him good.

to everyone that has to work or be around any taters trying to downplay our 2 wins over Wilmington, here's a few things they can chew on...
after the Seahawks beat RI saturday to move to 2-0 in the regional, this is where their team ranked nationally in several offensive categories (300 teams ranked)...
Scoring - 1st 8.6/pg
Runs - 2nd 499/yr
Slugging - 2nd .523%
HR - 3rd 86/yr
HR per game - 3rd1.48/gm
Hits - 5th 679/yr
Doubles - 26th 123/yr
Doubles/Gm - 26th 2.12
Carolina pitching shut UNCW down allowing just 2 runs through the first 16 innings played between the 2 teams and scoreless in 15 of 18 total innings. 6 total runs in 2 games.

You're lucky, you only had to go to class with them. Try and pick better friends like ECU & Coastal alumni and fans. Anybody in the ACC are a bunch of egotistical jerks.
Personally I've never had issues with UNC-W fans. My only bro got his undergrad from there and my only sis lives in Wilmington. It's a great place to go to school and live.
Good luck to them in 2017!

The only stipulation is he has to where a paper bag for the whole game and he has to stay away from the play ground forever.

I think he went to the Friday game. Then he melted. Then he stopped posting for a second and we started doing well, so he refrained from posting, and then we won on Sunday. At that point he was convinced that if he did not post anymore during the playoffs or go to the games, we would keep going further into the postseason. If we win this weekend, do not anticipate his return until after the CWS. He is in full on feng shui/superstition mode.
I did check my cockytalk account, had he been banned, he would've probably PM'd one of us by now.

Team didn't look like it was ready to play today: I wasn't expecting dbl-digit run scores like the final 3 gms of the Regional, but was hoping for more than what we got.
Webb didn't have his A-Game....it was almost like he was too amped up at the start, he was falling behind to every batter throwing ball 1 with every first pitch. He had to scuffle throughout the game to keep it from getting ugly, and he did a solid job of that, but he just had too many baserunners every inning, and it ended up costing him.
I didn't think the Okie St. pitcher was anything super-special: he consistently threw low at the knees and threw nothing but 1st-pitch strikes and jumped ahead of all the Gamecock hitters, like I was hoping Webb would do. But he doesn't have crazy velocity or ball movement, and the Cowboys didn't make a slew of outstanding plays in the fields or stabbing plays on rope liners or throw a ton of dbl-play balls.
They just played solid, error-free baseball. That's pretty much all that the Okie State team did. They didn't give anything cheap to the Gamecocks, didn't help us out with anything. They forced us to make our own plays, TO STEP UP. And we didn't step up. Maybe tomorrow we will, or the season is done....
