There is a lot of talk , and hopes, that our football team is the real deal this year but are we just setting ourselves up to be disappointed again?

Offense:
We upgraded at QB and brought in some "fresh faces" at wide out. Running back we added some talent but...
Spencer couldn't get it done last year in an offensive heavy conference and now he is going to be facing SEC talent and speed every week. We all know what has happened in the past when OU made it to the playoffs and faced a real defense.

We still have the same OL players and coach as last year and he'll have the time they were either blocking air or each other.

Our new WR come from small schools so what makes anyone think that they can make the jump to the SEC and make waves?

We still have the same OC that the majority of the fan base wanted to run out of town halfway through the season last year. Did the light come on during the bowl game??

Our run defense sucked and we have the same guys back this year. If you can't stop the run you're toast in the SEC. Is our youth on the line grown up and is the LB core able to hit the correct gaps all of a sudden?

Our secondary still has Roderick back there enough said...

We have a brand new kicker this year

So are we going to have a team to be proud of or are we doing the Gamecock thing all over again?

It seems to me that our fans are having higher hopes this off season then in the past. It's due to winning the bowl and getting Spencer imo but it feels like fools gold to me.

I think the Oline played a lot better in the bowl game, the play calling looked a lot better in the bowl game.

Ive heard a lot of people say it takes until year 2 for an OC to really thrive. Maybe he still sucks, but maybe the system is run a little better this year.

as for the D, they kept us in it last year. I am hopeful that we can figure out the run D a little more, but they can win us some games.

Special teams worries me a little. Hopefully our new FG kicker is good, and our Punter can be big when needed. We at least have had those the last few years.

Ahhh, the old gamecock paradox. Hopeful moments of bring on the world tempered with the harsh reality of our program's history.

I’m not sure where this confidence comes from but if you look at the odds
We are only above Missouri and Vanderbilt to win the SEC (tied with Miss State and Auburn)
And Vegas has our o/u @5.5 wins
LINK /

I’m not really going to set myself up for for success considering a lot of the signs point to us not having it

I have the same feeling but on the flip side we were only picked to win 3.5 games and we doubled that.

We did upgrade at QB, RB and WR but still have the same OL. Defense we have issues stopping the run and , imo, we don't have that elite pass rusher plus Roderick is back in the secondary so we didn't upgrade via the portal at that position.

Looking at this year's schedule I see Georgia taking a step back ( but talent wise light years ahead of us). I don't see Florida making a huge jump and I don't think Napier is the answer there. We have film on UT and should have a better handle on their Offense. Clemson is still on a downward slide ( Dabo sure didn't learn anything from watching SOS slide here).
I think the 2nd game against Arkansas is going to the game that either sets us up for a great year or another blah year.

I mean i get it, we weren’t supposed to be good last year
And instead we were mediocre, our fans just got pumped because everyone said we be dog shite, and we weren’t

But if he get above 5.5 what would we get maybe 6 or 7 wins?
That’s all I’m feeling this year

I think 6-7 regular season wins is our ceiling. Get to 8 with a bowl win and momentum for recruiting should be there.

I think we have an extremely tough schedule if you just go by what the O/Us are
Georgia and Clemson at 10.5
Kentucky and A&M 8.5
Florida, Arkansas and Tennessee at 7.5

We will be underdogs in those games most likely

I think Florida is getting the preseason hype based off of their name and past success and I don't see them as a top 25 team.

Doesn’t matter
I think they’ll still beat us

We’ll win one of those games maybe 2 though

What number of wins this season would you accept as a positive for our program?

I would agree with that. I think that would still show recruits that we are heading in the right direction and help Beamer sell his vision.

Also let me add
That is 6 wins with no losses to Georgia State, SC State, Charlotte or Vanderbilt.

I think if we lose to one of those teams I have a much more negative view of the future

If we lose to any of those four teams we won't have a winning record.

Yeah I’ve got a sinking feeling this year isn’t gonna be anything special. Satterfield will ruin any chance of a decent season

Satterfield is the weakest link on a team that still has a bunch of weak points.

Beamer is doing as well as he can with the upgrades he needs to make and I have a ton of confidence in White, but we can’t let the bowl game fool us that Satterfield magically figured it out.

I’m a bit worried that Rattler said they’ve been watching a bunch of LA Rams tape considering Sean McVay is notorious for adapting his play calling throughout a game and being unpredictable with his schemes. I don’t know how Satterfield could mimic that.

I’m not getting my hopes up too much but I am excited to see some improvement across the board.

Satterfields best 2 games came after having 2 weeks to plan for Florida and a month for UNC. This team reminds me of Holtz begining with starting guys that can compete in the SEC with no talented depth behind them.
