I definitely got fooled by this team.
So, if you guys had a chance to get someone who would it be? In my opinion we messed up several years ago by not going after Pat Kelsey.

Kelsey has stated numerous times that he doesn't want to Coach here

Why we ever hired a coach that accumulated a mere .547-win rate at Chattanooga, whose best accomplishment was one NCAA tournament appearance (going 0-1) is beyond me.

Which says a lot about the state of our program. That we can’t even get interest in him or Furman’s coach.

I am fuzzy on this, but I always heard something about the youth coaches in this state don't like SC for some reason. Is there something to that?
I know for whatever reason we don't put money into our basketball here, and that has never made sense considering the old heads talk about how lively the town was when Frank and the boys were winning.

POS Senator Daryl Jackson son is heavily involved with aau and Gamecocks wouldn't play his pay to play bs so he steered players away from us. Hiring Carey Rich was supposed to correct that.

Thanks. I knew it was something shady with AAU. I also agree that Rich was supposed to fix that, but imo he has been a dud

Not going to lie, I hate this attitude that our whole AD seems to have. Too scared to do anything that seems unscrupulous. We'd never have the balls to hire a Bruce Pearl or a Will Wade.

I always thought the bigger issue was BOT. I've never heard of another BOT being set up as shitty and political as ours.
We have had a few AD's, Mcgee and Hyman who still didn't get a good BB hire.

I will say, at the time, Frank Martin was considered a coup. But, to your point, wasn't that when we missed out on Marshall because of admin. leadership/BOT? Maybe I'm misremembering, but I swear I remember reading that Marshall was interested in coming here...one of the rare coaches to do well at smaller in-state schools, but we completely fricked it up.
ETA: Also, I don't mean just BB. Our fear of hiring any coach that even has a shadow of unscrupulous behavior has fricked us up in other sports as well.

Maybe things are changing. We just hired Briles and 2yrs ago that wouldn't have happened.

yeahhh. It's nice to win with the nice guy (Tanner) , and it's nice to win with the cheeky legend (spurrier), but it sucks to just wander through the desert because you have the "nice guy" . Tennessee went through that.

Predictions for number of conference victories? I say no more than 4.

Over the next two years, Donati really needs to clear out every single Tanner hire.
