Baseball today is not any tougher than in the years past. Glad we beat a very overrated Florida team but if we play like this against Arkansas we will get ran out of the stadium.

That's not exactly true. The balls and bats are more juiced than they were during the BBCOR era.

plus again...our last 7 games have been vs ranked opponents. We went 4-3 over those 7. Is it perfect? no...but thats still solid ball overall.

You must be a lot younger than I because you seem to have forgotten the early Tanner years when bats were all aluminum and scores were 25-20

We are in the SEC where 10-12 teams are normally ranked and we used to go 6-0 or 5-2

yeah, I started watching as a kid in 97' which was the tail end of that era. Obviously the days of Disher, Giesler, Gonce, Smoak, Powell, Peters had their HR's as well. Just saying that the game does change in that aspect of scoring runs.

I will very much so argue that the SEC is far more competitive the last couple years over anytime. Teams like UGA, Bama, Auburn, Mizzou, UK, UT used to be easy series wins. Now those teams are really good. I remember mid 2000's into the 10's, the series that scared you were vandy, UF, and maybe a team like OM/Arkansas/LSU.

For further proof, if the season ended today we would be the 5 seed at the SEC tournament. 8 SEC teams are ranked.

When you're a top 10 team, like we were used to, of course the SEC seemed like there weren't as many competitive teams but when you're barely a top 30 team there are of course more competitive teams.

2010 - Final rankings
SC - 1
UF - 7
Arkansas - 13
Vandy - 14
Bama - 16
Auburn - 20

2011-
SC -1
UF - 2
Vandy - 4
State - 17
Arkansas - 24

2012
SC - 2
Arkansas - 3
UF - 6
LSU - 11
UK - 19
Vandy - 25

Current D1 Rankings Nationally
1 A&M
2 Arkansas
3 UK
4 UT
13- Vandy
16 - Bama
20 - SC
24 - UGA

We play # 2, #3, and #4 in like 3 of our next 4 weeks. How many do we need to win from those 9 games to make Gamecock nation happy? Honest question because what I am saying is that this year is tracking to be by far the toughest year in SEC history. I think we really are about a #15 team. Clemson is #6 and UNC is #11 so those OOC are tough. we went 1-2 in those games losing the 2 games by a combined 2 runs.

And for the record I get that the end of year rankings will drop a team or two because teams get upset in regionals or supers, or SEC teams play each other. It's just the top level teams this year are solid , and then having 4 teams in the back half of the top 25 is tough.

We had our chances but we fell short again. We can't put it all together and that is on the coach. Season isn't over get us into the postseason and we could get hot and who knows....

Edit I fully expected our fans to help us out but even that is now gone. When you start losing your fanbase your coach is soon to follow

Gamecocks get their second top 5 series win of the year vs UK. Kingston and the squad seem to be turning it around. Game 3 being a 10-0 run rule is a good sign. A lot of positives about this team.

Some numbers for yall.

Every SEC team we have faced this year has been ranked when we played them.

National Rankings
RPI - 11th
SOS - 4th
ELO - 9th
Quad 1 wins (12) - 2nd (behind only UK who has 14)
Top 5 wins - 6 ( Vandy x3, Uk x2, A&M 1)

I get the team has struggled at times, especially with RISP, but this team still ranks highly nationally in about every metric. That is the resume of a team that is firmly hosting. I think a lot of fans want Kingston gone they almost don't want to recognize the good things this team has done.

That could be because those fans are used to worrying about which top 8 seed we get as opposed to " I hope we host".

03 -10 we were only a national seed one year...In fact, tanner only led us to 5 national seeds in his time at Carolina. 00,02,04,11,12. So we have had plenty of years where top 16 was good enough. We had several years where we didnt even get a top 16 seed (1998*,1999**, 2001***, 2005,2006, 2008, 2009, 2010). So we didn't even host a regional in more years under tanner than he did host. We were a top 8 seed roughly a 1/3 of the time. I love Tanner, but from 04-10 he was in a mini slump where we werent hosting a ton, and we werent getting top 8 seeds. Granted the 40 win seasons help, but the SEC was not nearly as strong in the early to mid 2000's as it is now. The west coast still was probably better

* Different tournament format so it was harder to host
** Didnt make the tournament
*** Hosted, but UCF was the 1 seed because of lack of facilities. so not top 16.

So again, for a team currently set to host, for the second year in a row..the lack of support is still a bit surprising.

With almost zero success under Kingston the lack of support is not surprising.

quote:

The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team has been a national seed four years in a row, from 2014–2017. The Gamecocks have also made 34 NCAA tournament appearances, 11 College World Series berths, 6 CWS Finals appearances, and won two National Championships, in 2010 and 2011

This is what the fanbase is used to. Your comment that the " lack of support is surprising" Should tell you I'm not alone in feeling the way I do. Should Kingston make it to the city in Nebraska the support will be there I assure you.

So Gamecocks win 15-2 in 7 innings. Good showing in our last midweek game.

On another note the gamecocks were placed as the #10 seed for regional host spots....meaning the conversation for potentially getting a top 8 seed can begin. So with Mizzou, UGA, and UT left, how many wins do we feel we would need to host.

I think 7 with maybe 1 in hoover would get us a national seed.
