I've been fasting (5-2) for almost 2 years. Every Monday and Thursday religiously, except when I'm on vacation. I eat Sunday night and don't eat again until Tuesday mid morning, same with Wednesday night/Friday morning. Only drink water (lots of it) and drink coffee (black).

It's not easy, but I'm convinced it's what's keeping me healthy. All my "numbers" are significantly improved. Also haven't had so much as the sniffles in 2 years.

Anyone else had any experience with fasting? Would be very interested in your experience if so.

You might be interested in Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s take on fasting. He argues that humans become stronger (they’re antifragile) when the go through feast and famine rather than a continuous schedule of equal portions. It’s his same basic argument for exercising—no constant low impact exercises (like a treadmill) but instead weight lifting, walking on very hilly terrain, etc. This is an ok summary

I do IM 16-8. It seems to keep me in check. I’ve tried fasting for 48 hours and 72 hours. I think all that did was screw up my metabolism.

Just be aware that the link is more of a pro-keto argument than an explanation of Taleb’s ideas, but it gets the point across.

Read it. Thanks. I think the thing about fasting for is that it is one decision. That makes it easy for me to do and be disciplined about it. I dont necessarily eat keto on the days I dont fast. I dont really think about what I eat at all. Fasting is just "what I do". Been a game-changer for me, health-wise.

I have tried the 16/8 and I gained a heap of weight...eating 16 hours a day and the sleeping 8 didn't work for me.

Just kidding....I have done the 16/8 and I didn't notice significant weight loss I did notice I wasn't crashing at 3 oclock every day. The issue is I am an early riser and my family wants to eat dinner around 7 which is 2 hours after my 8th hour...and I will wind up eating something with them so its a killer. But if the timing works out it does seem to help with energy levels, for me at least.

There is some interesting research available about fasting and cancer....I don't think its definitive but it makes sense that Humans fasted most of our existence out of logistics

I still dip a little at 3:00 p.m., but a cup of coffee helps if absolutely necessary.

I usually get up around 5:30 a.m. and work out or run fasted, then start eating around 11:00 a.m. and finish up no later than 7:00 p.m. My children are very young, so "dinner" at my house generally consists of my wife and I eating whatever we can relatively quickly-me before bath time and her after.

You'd better have a ramp on the back of your car if you're not doing 85 between Frontenac and Chesterfield, TF!
