At the end of the Orgeron presser, they talked about this could be a big win to get LSU back on track just like last year.

"Playing Florida, obviously a rivalry game" says Orgeron

Losing to an average to below average LSU team coached by Orgeron is okay! I got it!

It's definitely a rivalry with Florida for us in all 3 sports. I realize yall have FSU, UGA and Tenn. It's my favorite rivalry for us.

LSU may not have had the rivalry label for as long, but the contests have been as good as any across all 3 major men's sports as any other rivalry in the country, imo.

I knew this when I went to the 2007 LSU Florida game.

Now this rivalry is becoming way to respectful. Go put on your damn jorts and get back in here.

Shouldn’t a rivalry share a border?

Maybe not a rivalry, but a huge game every year.

I fear this could be one of the annual games lost when the inevitable realignment happens.

I will get down voted into oblivion for this, but I think both schools won't miss it too much once it happens.

Barring the odd pod schedule we probably see the following changes. LSU gets Texas and Oklahoma each year, while losing Alabama and Auburn. Not wonderful losing the Alabama schools but I can see LSU fans hating Texas in less than a year and getting a heated rivalry with Oklahoma.

Florida gets Alabama and Auburn while losing LSU. I think they like playing LSU but Alabama and Auburn should really make up for that. Auburn and Florida, in particular, could really heat up quickly.

The times they are a changing. The good news is... I'm fairly sure this is it. Barring someone drops out of the SEC this is going to be our ride or die alignment until the heat death of the Universe.

This may be a close game. It's a shoe toss about who wins.

I'm definitely worried about losing it as an annual game.

Disagree here. It's gone beyond football with the recent history between the two schools in baseball and basketball. I think fans of both schools would really like to still play every year.

That is the benefit of baseball and basketball. You will still have those games.

Look... I like playing Missouri even though we've been hammered dog mess since they joined the league. But we are probably going to have to go with a 9 game SEC schedule to make this work in football. A good chunk of the "protected" rivalries are walking out the door if Alabama and Auburn move to the East.

I expect them to do that because the pod system seems like a disaster waiting to happen. So unless you want to play an East team once every decade or so we are probably going to have to get rid of protected rivalries and go with play 2 cross division teams each year. Which isn't wonderful. But at least you get a home and away every decade at least.

There are no good options here. I think this is the least craptacular one. Thank goodness we can get around this for baseball and basketball thanks to the sheer number of games played. Though that will eat into every team's OOC schedule.

I will... however... swear this to you TigerLunatik. Just give playing Texas in conference for two years a chance. If you don't hate them with the white hot passion of a thousand burning suns I'll give up eating Andouille sausage.

For the past 2 decades I'd argue LSU/Florida has been the most entertaining permanent cross-division game in the conference, even if Bama/Tenn and UGA/Auburn are more historic rivalries they've been kind lopsided recently. It'll be a shame if/when it's no longer permanent.

With pod scheduling at least we'd play every other year so it's not like we'd have to wait 7 years in between matchups or some absurd stuff like that, but it'll be a disappointing day the first time I look at an LSU schedule and don't see Florida on the docket.
