Secondary is doing well according to PFF. Ahead of schedule maybe?

Or are they benefiting from a dominant front 7?

We have yet to face a team that doesn't have OL problems....just saying.

Well here's something that isn't complex and we can agree on:

Stokes >> Speed
..
..
Daniels >> Bennett

Absolutely, we are. It is one reason we are doing so much blitzing. MOST teams with an excellent secondary does benefit from a strong pass rush, though.

Then you have teams with two great CBs that struggle like LSU did last year. Stingley and Ricks are considered a couple of the best in the country.

I'm not sure thta team exist. Everybody struggles across the OLine to an extent. Not sure if it was you, but somebody mentioned Florida....but personally I was not totally impressed by their OLine.

Okay..I am going to get lengthy here so stop reading if you don't like lengthy posts.

We have gotten used to Alabama having a dominant Front 7 and every year assume they have one. I'm not sure this year they do. AT THIS POINT.
I don't see that dominant hole plugger like Quinnen Williams or Daron Payne at this point. Now, one might develop as the season moves along, but i don't see it right now.

So, in my opinion, Alabama is not quite as good (AT THIS POINT) as we all thought, and I think Florida is a bit better than we thought. A combination of the two resulted in the game we saw last Saturday.

That dominant hole plugger (Such as Payne, Williams and Jordan Davis) soaks up 2 and 3 man blocks allowing the DEs and LBs to get free and make tons of plays stifling an offense making QBs tentative from a suffocating pass rush. RBs get stuffed on run plays and QBs run scared from pass rushes. We are seeing this with Jordan Davis right now.

This si why it is so critical for us to sign and/or develop another Jordan Davis type player. Someone big enough and strong enough to put middle pressure during pass plays and soak up blocks on pass and run plays to free up our other guys.

Is the front 7 getting all those sacks because the Dbs are overall doing a good job jamming at the line and taking away short routes?

You know....that's a great question. I realize you are just asking my opinion, and I also realize you have an opinion of your own.

Again, I think I would go with a combination of the two. As a whole I think our secondary is doing a good job in coverage, and I also think that is being aided by our pass rush. Which came first? The chicken or the egg?

From what i have seen....even when our rush gets to the QB it appears to ME that the other teams WRs are covered, too. So I think our secondary is doing a good job, like you said.

I also think our front 7 is doing a great job in pass rush. it's a deadly combination. I am trying not to get too excited because other than Clemson we have not really played a top team.

Having Arkansas and Auburn will tell the tale, in my opinion. Auburn in particular. (Nothing against Arkansas...I don't know enough about their pass rush philosophy.)
