Who was #85 that came in at LT in the 3rd quarter at the 7:50 mark. No name on the Jersey. I think Salyer lined up as a TE on that play. The next play McClendon got blown up, sheesh. I was looking to see Broderick Jones at LT and Salyer at LG. That didn't happen. It looks as though Warren Ericson have RG locked up.

Our guard play has been shite. Even on the good runs

I think 85 was Truss.

Watch for Willock to start at RG this week.

That's been the word...changes in the works for the OL...so we'll see. It will be interesting to see what combos we try this week. Maybe they can start Jones on creatine shots to get him the road grader power he needs at LT so Salyer can stay at guard. And maybe see what those young guys like Willock and Lindberg can do at guard.

Though comments from Salyer suggested that the issues with the line were mostly related to missing "details" -- blown assignments, going the wrong way, etc.

Ericsson I somewhat get because he’s playing out of position and due to injury. He’s tiny for a guard in our system because he’s really a center. But make no mistake. The guy blows assignments and gets abused by talented players. That just can’t happen.

The one that really grinds my gears though is Schaffer. Jesus H man. You have the ideal guard body but the mindset of a lazy lion. You go out and hunt and eat like 5 snaps a game. The rest you basically loaf around. He misses assignments too which is baffling considering he has 2+ years experience starting at guard.

I keep hoping Jones will step up because he’s supposedly the closest to being ready but idk if we’ll see it. Then again I think we blew a golden opportunity to put him in as a full time starter against UAB and USC and see how he does as the guy under fire.

Oh no… not the great Ericson. I was crucified when I said he shouldn’t play… He’s given up every sack so far this year. Now meansonny will come in here and list all his issues with his technique and all the preseason awards he was listed for.

In fairness he was up for a lot of awards because he is a decent center. But centers generally have less head up blocking responsibility. On runs they generally assist a double team and or combo to a linebacker. I mean sure, they have a guy they have to move by themselves on occasion but much less often than a guard.

I believe our problems in the run game are schematic. This offense is passing and finesse running.

True run games have the back getting the ball with momentum. We need more plays under center.

Is a mess. Weren't most if not all these young men 4 and 5 star OL from HS? So, is it coaching, the players, or a combination? I see little to zero push especially from G to G. If not corrected, it's going to cost this team a game or two.

This is my take as well. Based on my 30 years of Dawg Fandom we have an embarrassment of riches at the OL position. With 10-15 4* and 5* kids we should be able to find five kids that can convert a power run on 3rd and 2....

Should see a mix of Willock at RG to start with a steady dose of Jones at LT and Jamaree sliding inside. I think all can see Ericson inside isn’t sustainable and those appear to be the two options we will test out against Vandy and Arkansas

Ratledge going down really hurt us more than anyone knew at the time.

This, though not sure how viable it will be to still play around much early with Arkansas. I'm assuming we didn't do this as much with SC because their defensive strength is up front. Vandy should give the coaches enough time to play with the combinations, and then try and solidify a decision/path forward in the Arkansas game.

I think it's the combination of Ratledge going down and Ericson breaking his hand. If he could play center effectively, he likely still would be starting there in place of SVPG. He's a decent center, but as a guard, he has looked like a liability so far. SVPG still has a *lot* to work on in his own right, but long term this may work out better. Have seen it alluded to a few places, but right now between Salyer and JTD, they are covering for a lot of his flaws.

I'm not seeing it. SVP has been solid and will only get better. Warren Ericson do not have the physical gifts to replace what SVP has done so far.

*Physically* he's been fantastic. On the more cerebral side of playing Center though, he's basically not been responsible for any of the IDs or protection calls that you would typically expect from a C. That's not to say he won't get there, but as we take on more talented teams, it's a lot to pile on your QB. Hopefully, he's getting plenty of film review time and improving in this area. Stoked to have him playing as well as he is though.

From what I've seen, it looks like Jamaree has been calling the protections.still not ideal though.
