Upper Corner of Lower Alabama has been trouble......Revenge! Lets get to the Elite 8

Man, you just brought up a game from the worst football season of my lifetime. We went in ranked 3. I remember the UCLA fans chanting "overrated". We finished the year with 3 wins. UCLA was right.

When Milons returned that punt, I was ready to wager everything I owned that Alabama was going to win the National Championship. Then the bottom fell out.....for about 8 years.

You know going back to the Rose Bowl about a decade later and getting the first of the Championships that would define the greatest dynasty of this century in college sports so far, eases the pain of that year.

Yup, I was thinking that as well. Our next trip to the rose bowl was quite different.

I didn’t have a dog in the fight back and still don’t today but I enjoyed reading names of the past

Think of the people that spent all that money to go to CA to watch that sh!tshow. Watching on TV was bad enough...Milons had that early punt return and then it was literally the last Bama highlight for 8 years. (well, not technically, but it felt like it.)
And let's not forget the legacy of the infamous self named "Pancake Posse" OL that turned into the Flapjack Flops. (Never try to give yourself a badass moniker in the preseason kids.)

I remember reading a John Zenor piece about the Bama QB battle during two-a-days that hinted at major problems under the surface.
Seems he quoted one of the OL saying there were people on the team who didn’t want Zow to be the starter. Something about the way it was phrased led me to believe that the team was deeply divided along racial lines. That usually doesn’t bode well for unity and discipline, two qualities that were clearly lacking before September ended.

What a throwback! Thanks for that. Man, what a deflating game, sad to think that would be pretty typical for the next several years. The perspective looking back now is almost unbelievable.
What’s even more crazy is reading about a PAC-10 team having a game plan based on running the ball, ball control and game management. That idea has been dead in that conference for years.

Sheesh, immediate flash backs to sitting in the loby of Paty Hall as a freshman and thinking here we go!! Crazy how hard we crashed that season

There were those who wanted Watts to start and those who wanted Zow, but it didn't go down racial lines as that article suggested. It was a matter of if you wanted a dual threat or a pocket passer. I was in the Zow camp. When Fran came, he went with Watts because of his 70's style offense that I hated. But Zenor was race baiting with that article. I mean if he wanted to say something racial and interesting, then he should've pointed that Bama had a black qb who wasn't a running threat and a white one who was.
Oh, and after watching Watts has do his commentary for all of these years, I am 100 percent convinced that Zow would be better at that too.

Zow was better IMO. Watts was not much of a threat downfield at all.

I told people before that season ever started that the #3 ranking was stupid. Lost the only two good players from the year before to the first round of the NFL draft, and didn't have a single real NFL prospect on the roster.

I was there. Worst sunburnt face I’ve ever gotten.
I also witnessed an Alabama fan kick the arse of a UCLA fan (who was hurling incest jokes) outside the stadium after the game.

I don't know what you are talking about. We had the greatest players on that team. Just go back and watch the pregame show and the Alabama players will tell you all about it in the interviews.

Used Car Lot Academy. One of my fathers UCLA friends refers to them as such lol
