8-6-1-b
b. A kick becomes dead by rule behind the defending team’s goal line and the attacking team is responsible for the ball being there (Exception: Rule 8-4-2-b) (A.R. 6-3-4-III).
8-7-2-a
Initial Impetus
ARTICLE 2. a. The impetus imparted by a player who kicks, passes, snaps or fumbles the ball shall be considered responsible for the ball’s progress in any direction even though its course is deflected or reversed after striking the ground or after touching an official or a player of either team (A.R. 6-3-4-III; A.R. 8-5-1-II, VI and VIII; and A.R. 8-7-2-I-IV).
The officials got it right and every announcer, including Kiffin and Chizik got it wrong.
There is a reason it was only reviewed once and no call to go into a delayed review .

Read the last sentence carefully. It reveals why the Review booth in the stadium and Birmingham, turned the machine off immediately following the initial review.

I was screaming this at the announcer. Really only noticed this rule applying the last few years. A guy bobbles around the two as it rolls in the end zone and the play is dead.
Used to the guy would panic, pick it up and be tackled on the 5. ??

Let's go to Rule 6 "Kicks," Section 1 "Free Kicks," Article 7 "Ball Dead in Endzone":
Ball Dead in End Zone
ARTICLE 7. a. When a free kick untouched by Team B touches the ground on or behind Team B’s goal line, the ball becomes dead and belongs to Team B.b. If the result of the free kick is a touchback (Rule 8-6) for Team B, they will put the ball in play at their 25-yard line.

Well, it didn’t slow them down there, they are still writing articles about how we were given the game again. In both cases, once the whistle is blown the play is dead.

Your problem is you are debating an official with over 20 years experience, in National Federation, NCAA and NFL rules. Take a rule test and see how you do.
We challenged the Coaches to take our test one year. The best score out of 50 coaches was 56.

That video the ball was recovered by kicking team before it went in the end zone

Kicking team can’t advance the ball if they recover it so the recovery had to happen in the endzone

Did they review that play?
It appeared to me that the gunner touched the ball himself and batted it into the endzone. Not sure how to interpret that.
