How much of your local news is spent on college sports?

I grew up in Birmingham and in addition to pretty much all the sports segment, some of the main news segment included info on Alabama and Auburn. The Saturday evening news definitely opened with football results during the Fall. I remember being extremely disappointed when I moved to Texas in the 1990’s and college football would barely get mentioned.
Realized earlier this year you can pretty much watch any local news on Roku and was looking forward to catching sports in cities where there are teams I follow. Last I checked, right now about 29 minutes of everyone’s local news is about COVID and social justice issues. I’m hoping that changes in a month if the games can get started.
During a normal year, do college teams of interest get much coverage?

People still watch the local news outside of inclement weather?

I don't watch local news.

Exactly what Hemp said.
We have some of the best weather coverage in the country because of where we live. If we want local news, we just keep up to date with the apps or online access. But when it comes to wall-to-wall weather coverage is when we all tune in to our NBC, ABC, CBS affiliates.
But to answer the topic; Oklahoma is a growing state but still small enough where OU, OSU, Tulsa, and sometimes Oral Roberts will have great coverage. Oklahoma football gets plenty of coverage because of the obvious. Oklahoma Football is covered year round but in the offseason it’s not as much because there’s not a lot of activity. The OKC Thunder seems to take precedent as it is the biggest attraction in the state. The off-season still has plenty of Thunder coverage as opposed to the Sooners or Cowboys.

Being that I'm in the Atlanta market (like you?), we should have the same answer.
Local news does a good job with pregame and postgame coverage.
And there is weekly programming dedicated to all Bulldawg sports on weekends (Bulldogs Gameweek).
As for the nightly news, they may include a 30 second to 1 minute vignette highlighting something of interest (trash talk, helicopters on high school campuses, sound bite from the beat writers daily interviews with players).

The Hogs have a monopoly on it here, understandably. Don’t really watch the local news anymore but they used to have a 30-minute Razorback recap show every Sunday night after the nightly news and usually they’ll start the news with a live remote from after the game depending on what time the game is on Saturdays.
Depending where you are in Arkansas there can be some OU and Missouri coverage too though.

quote:makes ya wonder why so much coverage on a virus and a black guy dying in police custody.
Last I checked, right now about 29 minutes of everyone’s local news is about COVID and social justice issues.
650 deaths in Chicago may get 1 minute of coverage or may not even get reported.
don't forget issues like Jussie Smollett or Al Sharpton and Tawana Brawley, to name just a couple made up oppression stories shoved down the publics throats for weeks on end.
and the media never if ever admit the error. just move on to the next fakenews story. em
