Stoops at Florida....

Was he truly the difference maker that got UF over the hump or was it a collective effort everywhere? For a few years at OU, the Sooners had a decent defense under Stoops, then complacency took over.
I find it aggravating how OU, among other XII schools, haven’t played defense in years, and Stoops, who was hired as HC for his defensive leadership, failed to be consistent with it here.
If Stoops was at Florida in 1995, does Nebraska still dominate or is it closer?

Stoops was one hell of a DC. That’s the thing everyone glosses over when discussing the 90’s Florida teams. We are all enamored with their offense and all the gaudy numbers, but man those defense were salty AF. His defenses initially at OU were stellar as well if I remember correctly.
I think the recruiting and schemes in the Big XII footprint changed significantly and which resulted in less defensive progress. I mean, look at TX HS football. The best athletes are all on offense.

I think part was stoops and part was talent on defense. I will say after stoops left we had to suffer hoke defenses.

Stoops was a major part and his defenses were great with some studs. All in all though those teams were lethal everywhere.
No Stoops wouldn't haven't mattered against that Nebraska squad. They were not losing that day. 1 of 3 teams debatable as the best single season squad of all time(Miami 01 and of course LSU 19)

Stoops made our defense tougher. Spurrier saw the Nebraska game and knew he had to get tougher to win a title.
Stoops did an incredible job.

Nebraska still wins, but its definitely not the 62-24 game that we saw.
Stoops brought a level of toughness to the UF defense that wasn't there in 1995.
