I think Mathis get cleared. Unless he is delusional his doctors must be telling him promising stuff. He will be cleared for full contact by Fall practice at the latest which really doesn't matter for Spring since QBs don't take hits in practice anyway. I think he wins the backup job too.
Bennett would be backup in name only. If Newman has to miss a game he isn't starting.
