I love that motion (rbs out wide and motioning to the backfield as well).

I just love what the i formation can do in short yardage. But coaches who get paid a lot more than me have gone away from it. I'm not the biggest falcons fan. But the offense went through an identity crisis when they got rid of ovie mugheli (sp?). They struggled in the red zone.

Seems like that was more than just Ovie.

I don't watch Auburn games enough to have an opinion there.

But the stats for Auburn almost mirror UGA in 3rd and short / 4th and short.
Adding 1st downs and TDs together, they convert 65% of 3rd and under 3 on the ground.
Adding 1st downs and TDs together, they convert 40% of 4th down attempts on the ground.

UGA was 64% conversion on 3rd and <=3 (with a much better ypa).
UGA was 40% of 4th down attempts with a much better ypa.

I was not impressed with UGAs short yardage game. Considering that UGA led the conference in pass attempts in 3rd and <=3 (25 pass attempts which is the same as our rush attempts at that down and distance), i dont think the coaching staff was impressed with our short yardage either.

They didn't just not resign Ovie. They went away from the iformation. You are right. It kind of mirrors Smart not bringing in fullbacks and not using the iformation, either.

Makes sense.
I like the HBack. And I like being able to change formation and style of play without substituting.

I just wish we had a better short yardage game. Everyone hoped that size and stars on the OL would have given us those automatic yards. But the best short yardage looks that we have had the past 3 years was with Fields at QB. He was 100% on third down and 50% on 4th down (the SECCG 4th and long affects this one)
