He wasn't such a good and nice man. I've never heard a bad word about him.

Cecil posted this photo from last season. I loved it then and I love it even more now.

Bart Starr, legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback, dies at 85
AP May 26, 2019 at 11:50a ET

quote:

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Bart Starr, the Green Bay Packers quarterback and catalyst of Vince Lombardi’s powerhouse teams of the 1960s, has died. He was 85.

The Packers announced Sunday that Starr had died, citing his family. He had been in failing health since suffering a serious stroke in 2014.

The Packers chose Starr out of the University of Alabama with the 200th pick in the 1956 draft, and after Lombardi’s arrival in 1959, Starr led Green Bay to six division titles, five NFL championships and wins in the first two Super Bowls.

But it was in the “Ice Bowl” on New Year’s Eve 1967 that Starr secured his legacy, scoring on a sneak with 16 seconds left to give Green Bay a 21-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Starr was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.

RIP to a Legend. I had the pleasure of playing a few holes of golf with him in the Panhandle. Great guy.

Such a great, humble man - outside of football. Loved him and love his wife. My wife’s family knew them fairly well.

RIP Mr. Starr

I have never EVER heard anyone say anything negative about Bart Starr. He was a class act and a wonderful person to everyone he met. My wife had the privilege of meeting him multiple times as a cashier at the old Delchamps in Riverchase, ringing up his groceries. She said he was as nice to her as he would have been to the governor. That was just who he was.

Not only did we lose a legendary QB, a multiple SuperBowl champion and multiple SB MVP, more importantly we lost a great human being and a kind soul. My heart aches from all the losses this weekend.

Truth. My Dad grew up down the street from Starr's parents in Montgomery.

Total class act

Was really sad to hear he had died. The only autograph I have is the one I got from him.

Seems like he's never really gotten his due in some respects from UA because he played on such poor teams.

Hope he's at peace, been sick forever.
