5-7 in 2018 was not bad considering the trash roster Germy was left with. It is very evident that Lyle's strength and conditioning program was at a middle school level.
1. Khalil McKenzie, 5* DL: Left as a junior and was drafted as an OL in the 6th round, where he should have been playing in college. Dealt with lots of injuries.
2. Kyle Phillips, 5* DE: Signed with the Jets after going undrafted. Kyle had a season ending injury in 2015 and dealt with injuries and position changes in '16 and '17. He did have a strong 2018.
3. Alvin Kamara, 4* RB. Everyone knows AK's story. Drafted in the 3rd round in 2017 after being criminally under-utilized.
4. Preston William's, 4* WR. Transferred to CSU.
5. Shy Tuttle, 4* DL. Injured his entire college career. Signed with the Saints.
6. Drew Richmond, 4* OL. Bust. Recently transferred to USC.
7. Jack Jones, 4* OL. Retired from football due to injuries.
8. Darrin Kirkland Jr, 4* LB. Injured his entire career. Supposed to be back next year but that is up in the air.
9. Jauan Jennings, 4* WR. Injured in 2017, will be back for 2019.
10. Quarte Sapp, 4* LB. Very forgettable player. Signed with the Titans.
11. Micah Abernathy, 4* CB. See above. Signed with Vikings.
12. Sheriron Jones, 4* QB. Transferred.
13. Justin Martin, 4* CB. Bust.
14. Andrew Butcher, 4* DE. Retired from football due to injuries. What a waste of a great last name.
15. Quinten Dormandy, 4* QB. Transferred.
16. Darrell Taylor, 4* DE. Team leader in sacks, returning next year.
The 2015 class was 4th in the nation and 2nd in the SEC. Lyle's recruiting classes started to dip after 2015.
Out of 16 blue chip players, only 8 were available to contribute in 2018. 4 of those players have dealt with serious injuries during their career.
If Germy can ever dig us out of this hole it is going to take at least one more year. I think the o/u should be 6.5 wins for the 2019 VOLS.

I thought Kamara was a transfer. I didn't know he went to JUCO.

Tennessee: where stars go to die

So you’re saying UTk is the place where high 4 and 5 stars go to die, rhetorically speaking (career wise of course)?

A ton of those are injuries and medical retirements which isn't surprising given the circumstances. Butch didn't have a strength coach forever and there was no consistency when he did have them. He was incapable of developing players.
Gillespie (RBs) and Stripling (DL - tho injuries hamstrung him) were the only two position coaches on staff that could consistently develop players. Other spots were either constantly changing or filled with coaches who were incompetent.
