15th highest paid coach in CBB. Tony Bennett at Virginia makes $3 million.

Please explain to me why we should keep a coach that gets blown out against mediocre teams, implodes in February, and gets paid as a top 15 coach to live on the bubble.

How much would he owe UA when/if going back to the NBA?

2.9 isn't a big item but his F buyout is a shame! It's not like anybody else wanted him as a coach at the time he was hired. Both Grant and Johnson were complete clusterfeck hires and CM and Wimp were full throttle on Grant.

Everyone wanted Grant tho. Avery just sweet talked us with what he did in the nba. When he really didn't do anything.

Hiring them wasn’t the mistake. Extending them and giving them both obscene buyouts is the moronic indefensible act.

I'll say it again, a coach's background matters. If they ain't from the midwest or northeast like Connecticutt, I don't want them.

I'll still give him about a 6 out of 10.
Not worth paying him that much for it, though.

I am for paying them more in salary each year but no more than 3 million in buyout money. Both sides need skin the game. If a coach doesn't want the deal then F'Um.

I really don’t understand the buyouts. It’s not like the NBA or basketball blue bloods come poaching coaches from Bama. We may not be a hoops blue blood, but we’re not a damn mid major either. We pay well, it’s a good league, you can win here and make some deep runs in the Dance occasionally. Coleman needs some work but it’s not a shithole. It’s just stupid to give buyouts like that because it only protects the coach, not Alabama. It makes them virtually unfireable until it’s way past time. Grant was kept 2 years too long and almost a third because of a dumbass buyout.
Hell, I wish we had the problem of worrying about someone stealing our coach. That would mean he built something pretty damn special in Tuscaloosa.

The agents have been beating the hell of ADs in negotiations across all sports for years now.

We need a proven college coach who had success on a major level at some point. Not a hot name.

You think it's a joke, but the numbers are on my side. You can make a list of great coaches from outside those regions I favored. Go ahead, chump.

Where a person is born in the United States has no bearing on the type coach he is or will become. You’re a moron.

You're a dolt to overlook such a thing. A person's background matters alot in their success long-term. It's no coincidence that Coach K is from Chicago or that John Wooden is from Indiana. Bobby Knight and Musselman are from Ohio. You're more likely to hire a great coach that went to Mount Union than say, Texas.

I was going to give a counterpoint but stopped after going 0-15. You may be on to something.

Aaron Suttles says this is not a factor when someone brought it up on 3 man front and completely disagreed. When giving his reason it made absolutely no sense...I can't even repeat his comment it was such a head scratcher.

I really hate Suttles.

I understand what your saying but my question is can a coach North of the Mason-Dixon line have success recruiting from Bama's area or will they have to work the North for recruits. Wimp and CM and even Mark had the benefit of better players within the state of Alabama that what we're see these days. Being the BB coach at Bama isn't a easy job for sure. Grant and Avery are terrible coaches with Avery being the better PR and recruiter of the two. JMO

Quite a few coaches in this conference (past and present) recruited well. Donovan is from northeast and he pulled in great classes all the time. As a matter of fact, his nc teams was built on under the radar players save for one or two. Assistant coaches matter in recruiting. Gonzaga recruits Europe for their players all the time.
