Twenty years later, it's a Heisman Trophy class that still has no peers.

It featured four first-round picks, three future Hall of Famers and one controversial decision.

There was Tennessee QB Peyton Manning, who spurned NFL riches the year before to return to school to win an SEC title and throw for 3,819 yards and 36 touchdowns. There was Michigan's do-everything playmaker Charles Woodson, who dominated at cornerback but also excelled on special teams and offense for the unbeaten and top-ranked Wolverines. There was the relatively unknown wide receiver at Marshall making defenses look silly in Randy Moss. And there was big-armed Washington State QB Ryan Leaf, leading the Cougars to the Rose Bowl.

Charles Woodson is a good dude while Peyton Manning is a sexual assaulting HGH-using scumbag. Right man won.

i was fine with woodson winning. He had an amazing season with some hilight plays (one that won them the natty also). Peyton also had an amazing season but only one can win and the agenda was pushing a defensive player to win that year and he did. There have been far worse screwed in the flawed heisman such as larry fitzgerald.

It's a shame more defensive players haven't won it, many have been qualified. On top of defense you would have to be a return guy as well.

Make it truly the best player in football not just the best QB, RB or WR.

Love this debate - compare Honey Badgers stats to Woodson. No comparison. Woodson averaged like 7yds per punt return.

Yeah no. Larry Fitzgerald was non-existent in the 2003 game against Miami. His stats for the game were not Heisman worthy.

Meanwhile, Jason White, despite a blowout loss to Kansas State, still threw for Heisman yardage.

White was gimpy due to injuries in 2001 and 2002, and still had a stellar campaign.

Maybe Manning and the Vols should have beaten FL.
