I don’t recognize this team at all. Avery Johnson & Co. have done the seemingly impossible: Alabama basketball is fricking fun to watch.

I was a disappointed cucumber when he didn’t come. But Avery is turning out to be a perfect fit for us.

I don’t think Marshall could have turned us around, both on the court and in the crowd, like Avery has. There’s a LOT of energy in this program now.

Yeah I hate this reaction of people acting like we dodged some sort of bullet.

I think it is fine to be happy we have Avery and admit it probably would have been just as awesome to land Marshall

It takes one player to turn a team / coaching record around.

FWIW, Grant was paid top money.

Avery Johnson is getting paid what 2.8 million a year? Which is more than Scott Drew, Sean Miller, Jay Wright, Matt Painter, Mike Anderson, Roy Williams, Mark Few, Steve Prohm, and Greg McDermott made last year.

frick, we should be in the top 25.

Salary has some to do with turning a program around but c'mon Avery inherited a damn dumpster fire and apathy was as low as I can remember. Grant got top money but no energy. Energy and enthusiasm go a long way. Getting top recruits comes from a vision and a direction. Marshall is a good coach but I've always wondered if he's that good why not take on a challenge of a power 5 job? Hes built a good program there and if he came here it wouldn't have been a good fit. His wife is a nightmare from a PR standpoint and I think we are fortunate to have Avery. He wants to be here, which is better than being used as leverage..Which is all Marshall did with us.

My point was you pay top dollar for top results. We have always paid top dollar but received shitty results.

Top 25 should be the minimum this program. IMO anyways.

I also agree that the program was borderline dead due to lack of energy and Grant's stranglehold on the media.

Avery is doing a fine job but top 25 is where we should be. :)

And we’re there in the top 25 right now. And just survived and beat a damn good team in UTA when our best 3 point shooter was off all night.

As long as Avery continues to recruit like he has we will be fine and make deep runs in the tourney. I look at getting Sexton like getting Julio. It changed the program. If Sexton goes top 10 next year more recruits are going to start paying attention
