I bet $100 for AU to win more than 6 games (not an OT baller). Wanted the 5.5, but my fried was at the sports book that only had it at 6. AU is more talented than the MS schools and Arkansas. Penn State at home, and I think LSU is still finding themselves. No chance against bama or uga. aTm is a slight toss up in their favor.

My son is just starting to understand and play football, so like I told him, AU could be 15-0, or 0-12, and nothing would surprise me. Thanks folks for keeping this board active.

Will Adams said he was hoping Harsin would keep Russell, and bring Pitman under him. He said Auburn needed a big dose of mental toughness and Pitman would give that to them. ETA: quote: 'we had linemean that were in better aerobic shape than the skill guys' and Kozan and Will Adams agreed Yes, the above statement was said in the podcast as well. From listening to the interview, Will Adams liked both coaching staffs, and was very fond of Russell. Claims it was Russell that told him he should check out Boise St.

So nothing about voluntary weightlifting program?
Theoretically the OL being in better aerobic shape than the skill position players seems farfetched because OL are fat, but as an OL in high school I can tell you I’d much rather be running routes in practice. We were always in the pit- no grass, rocks( gotta run just to get there) and then try to manhandle a DL the whole practice, receivers ran on fresh cut grass.

Gus wanted his OL fast and lean. Why we generally didn’t incorporate zone schemes and why we would struggle when Gus would allow a zone coordinator to design the offense we wouldn’t be able to run as effective. We we did man blocking with traps and pulls you want linemen that can move and block in space.

Example our outside counter no one wanted to see our 2 guards pull out side and whiff on the safety and linebacker they were supposed to block because they weren’t athletic enough to get to the guy.

This stupid theory that we had no mandatory work outs is ignorant. We absolutely would demolish people with our run game some had to do with scheme some had to do with lineman agility and strength. Remember when we built the sandpit we heard about that thing from players for 2 years dreading the workouts.

I’ve never seen our OL blown up more then last year outside of 2012. Both moved from man scheme to zone scheme. Takes a different ability and interior guys have to be different type of athletes for each. Zone you want that 6-5 330 pound interior guy. Man/gap/pull/trap you want a 6-4 305 guys that can move and get to their spots.

Just like under Gus I bet I had to explain the orbit motion on the Fambly 40 times before everyone understood why we would run the orbit motion

According to my count

Gus 52
Tommy 51

Not a big gap but Gus had 5 more make it to the NFL. I counted all NFL players and not just drafts.

Gus I did 2014-2020
Tommy I did 2000-2009

I just gave them the year after they began and the year after they left since the draft is held that year. I didn’t do it by players signed by each coach just in their tenure. So there could be some differences there if someone wants to take the time to dig into that.

I didn’t know the actual numbers but knew that Gus had put more players in the league then basically all of our coaches. Not sure he is/was ahead of Dye but knew he was since Dye I think that was the statement I heard or read.

Gus was seen as a coach that couldn’t develop people which is misplaced. Tubs was see. As someone that could develop people. But in the wash it comes down talent acquisition. Who has the most toys wins.

Some seem to forget Gus staff were solid recruiter.

Too bad they couldn't recruit any OL out of highschool or develop any players worth a damn. Gus's recruiting is why we're having to hit up OL recruits so hard right now, he literally never signed one out of highschool in his time here IIRC.

OL recruiting was a problem but he was able to fill in nicely through transfers and Juco. Every stater last year and this year will probably be Gus recruits on OL.

This year should be a breeze to recruit OL. Everyone will be gone after this season and we still can’t get OL to commit. And Friend has always been a solid recruiter

Not saying this is a great number or anything but during Gus’s time at Auburn 7 OL we’re drafted and multiple others signed to FA and practice squads. Robinson was the number 2 overall pick as well. Granted in the league he never got his footing at tackle and the money was to much for a guard where he played ok. Over Gus’s career at AU I think we were 5th in the conference in drafted players. LSU and Bama almost doubled everyone else and Georgia slightly behind and UF and AU right there neck and neck. That included some of Urban’s classes leftovers at UF as well.

Anyway this thread has taken every twist and turn.

Here’s hoping we can prove all the doubters wrong and finish out like 9-3. It’s getting close to season predictions thread time. I’ll start one up the second week of fall camp. Next week player starting prediction thread as well. Actually I’ll start one now but I’m holding up a day or so to study some of the unknowns on the roster for some of the transfers like DJ James and players like that.

AU is going to win the whole thing. They might face Utah in the playoffs. I was born at Lee County Hospital so I’m rooting for the Tigers. Calzada and Tank will be in the heisman discussion. Wooten on D. Alabama will be a tough chore.

Nobody can realistically look at Auburn’s roster and think it’s not at the bottom of the SEC in terms of quality of player.
I think we have a really good starting line up. 8-9 win season imo
