Dead arse Serious. What Did Napier Do To Deserve To Be Florida's Football Coach?

I just looked at their teams track record. I though I missed something substantial.
Florida is not a shite job obviously, and is sitting in 1 of the 2 best State's to recruit football players.
What's the fricking rush? I think they could have done much better.

Napier has done a good job in the Sun Belt. We'll see if he can succeed at the next level. You never really know how it will work out with these guys taking that step.

They got a guy who checked the boxes and was their first choice

Florida always does quick no nonsense coaching searches. This is a pretty good mid level guy we can definitely get. Get him. Done.

Who would have been clearly better? No supposition or conjecture. Who could they have gotten that would have been clearly better?

I like how Florida did their business on this one. It may or may not work out in the long run, but it looks like Florida knew who it wanted and didn't frick around.
Well done, imo.

SS started on this weeks before DM was fired.
BN has a good reputation amongst coaches they talked to.
Young, calculated football junkie with a very good coaching pedigree. Said to be a very good recruiter and team builder, laid out his demands along with possible staff additions in his interview and they were so impressive that SS ended his search on the spot.
We’ll see

Reports are that Strickland was so impressed during the interview it was over before he got back on the UF plane headed back to Gainesville.
Love to have video of those interviews. I bet they are fascinating.

Arguably:
Dan Lanning - grad asst. Bama / 4 years under Kirby and DC since 2019.
Marcus Freeman - very respected - young super bright mind - DC Year and Broyles 2020 Finalist Cincinnati - Nationally ranked D at Cincy - Almost took LSU DC job and passed to go to Notre Dame
That's 2 fresh of top of my head.

Good names no doubt, but no experience building a program.
UF is getting a reboot

Coaches son and fantastic recruiter who has worked for and was highly thought of by Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban, and Jimbo Fisher.
Saban actually brought him on staff twice. Had he stayed, he probably would've eventually gotten OC, like he was at Clemson under Dabo.
His organization, planning, and routines are what he learned from Saban.
Lost five total games in his last three years at Louisiana, won the division all three years, and the conference once.

Dude is still coaching his team for the Conf title whilst building a staff n recruiting for UF
Already doing more work at UF than Mullen did in years lol

I also take it that Napier is pretty no nonsense. Florida needs that after Mullen’s derpy bullshite.

One thing about Napier was it wasn't just one year. 32 wins in 3 years with 2 bowl wins (not coaching in this year's bowl) is pretty consistently good.
But the one team with a "pulse" (if you even want to call it that) that Louisiana played this year was Texas, and we rolled them. Not an obliteration by any means, but it was never really in doubt.
Maybe that said more about Texas as they declined as the year progressed, but it's still something that shouldn't be ignored.
I think he was a good hire. Not a Lincoln Riley to SC homerun, but definitely a good one. For sure no worse than a B+

He checked 2 big boxes. Relentless recruiter and high character guy.
Other important attributes. Teambuilder, attention to detail, experience with big name programs.
Short of landing a big fish like Kiffin or Stoops (Bob) not sure of anyone else IMO who would have been a better hire for what UF currently needs.

Riley lost to a team he has more talent than.
Not many coaches could take a ULL n beat a P5 team. Texas has talent regardless of their record. Look at the class rankings over the last few yrs.

Neither one has ever been a head coach before. Don't be a moron. Neither one is "arguably" better than Napier by any stretch of the imagination. Napier has a 39-12 record, a conference championship, and this year's team may win one as well.
Go back and read what I said. No supposition. No conjecture. Who was clearly a better choice than Napier?
If you don't have anything intelligent to add to the discussion, give your fingers a rest.

Urban was a lucky break. I doubt Napier will match the high water marks of Mullen or even Boom.

He coached at USL which is only a moderate step to the Gators. Almost lateral move, honestly.

Fair point, but consider the school. He set numerous "firsts" at that program, and there is probably just a hard ceiling on what he could accomplish in a few years.
I 100% still think he's a risk, but I really like this hire and believe he will do well.
If I'm being honest, I'd selfishly like for him to succeed wildly and end up back at Alabama one day in the distant future (he's only 42).
