“I believe that Mark Stoops and Mitch Barnhart reached an agreement on Sunday about changes that need to be made in the program. And I now feel confident in saying that Mark Stoops will remain as the coach at Kentucky,” Jones said on Tuesday’s KSR radio show.

quote:

“The changes that will take place will include the building of the (practice) facility — whether it’s this current one or another without the track or a new one — the recruiting budget and support staff in general. I think pretty much everything that was wanted ended up occurring. It’s great news. I feel very good about the whole thing. It was Saturday before the game against Louisville.”

quote:

Speculation swirled wildly that Stoops could leave Lexington after his ninth season as the coaching carousel took a crazy left turn. Multiple reports tied Stoops to vacancies at LSU and Oklahoma. Instead of entertaining the job openings, Stoops hit the road recruiting to continue building Kentucky’s football program.

UK football getting upgraded again thanks to LSUs alledged interest and Stoops ability to leverage it for more stuff

And now extension is official, through 2028

I hope he makes Kentucky a Football school. They need it, since they're no longer a Basketball school.

He has it made there for life. Not sure why he would want to leave. Look at what happens at places like LSU. Win a championship and 2 seasons later you're fired.

Thank Stoop’s agent for throwing his name into an opening that he would NEVER have gotten

Second longest tenured coach in the SEC right now. Kentucky really is the perfect fit and the biggest need and strength for the school is stability. Recruiting has really picked up and the portal has allowed us to plug holes going into the season. Excited to see what the next couple of years bring

He is doing good things at UK and deserves time to develop that program. I'm actually happy for UK being able to throw some punches in the east

For where Kentucky is at, yeah - he fits. Still lots and lots of program improvement needed in other areas before we start looking at coach upgrades. He's done UK Football a solid service.

I wouldn't go there. He's a good coach, and has good recruiters around him. Mining Ohio and other northern states, as well as pulling a few up and comers from the south has been fun to watch.

Yes very dumb that anyone would think LSU would be interested in the 2018 SEC coach of the year, first man to have a 10 win season at UK in decades, and coach of a team that beat LSU by 3 TDS less than 2 months ago.

Truly can't believe anyone would think that
