Game 1. Robinson is the starter. Doesn’t play great, but it’s Alabama. Bazelak gets a couple series, looks slightly better.

Game 2. Robinson starts again. Gets two series. Bazelak inserted and is the starter the rest of the year.

Now I get that the QB competition was actually real that off-season and it was probably close. Going to Bazelak then was the right decision, but how do you go from that to this complete and utter refusal to even TRY the backup in a game after weeks and weeks of below average to terrible play from the QB? Granted, we don’t watch practice and Cook and Macon could absolutely stink up the joint through the week and maybe they do, but we do watch games and watch Bazelak play. There is simply no logical explanation to not at least give these guys a few series in some of these games to at least TRY to spark the offense.

I legitimately think that as the season progressed he got so committed to Bazelak trying to shield him from criticism that he was legitimately scared that he might be wrong and wasn’t going to take that chance.

When they put Brady Cook in at the end of the game, I said in the game thread that they wouldn’t have Cook throw a pass. They were scared to death he would complete a couple passes and look better than Bazelak.

Cook didn’t throw a pass.

Said kinda the same thing BEFORE he sent Brady in. Said “Drink can’t put Cook or Macon in because if they have any success it will highlight the bad decision making Drink has shown all game by sticking with Baze”.

As you point out he found a way to do it. Don’t let the QB throw or run.

I truly do believe this to be the case. There just isn’t any explanation that makes any sense whatsoever.

Of course this isn’t just one game, but yesterday it was just painfully obvious. Even from the first series when he overthrew a wide open Boo Smith by 5 yards.

I can’t make the switch now because if I was wrong and I’ve been running this guy out here for weeks playing poorly I’m going to look really dumb. It is what it is at this point. They can reset next year, but man he really raised some questions about his ability as a coach that didn’t have to be raised.

I think the situation is more complicated with the transfer portal. To an earlier comment, we have a QB room full of backups. If you throw in Cook, it looks like Drink is picking a "winner" and there is risk you lose QB's to the portal... and what if there is an injury. I bet Horn is the next true QB, but will he be ready as a freshman... doubtful. look at Lock. he needs the best backups possible until he can recruit a steady stream. I think he is managing the QB room to some degree. This is a whole new dimension to coaching until he can compete at a high level and has the backups across the board, it is a problem.

They were letting Badie get “his” because there was no other reason for him to be in there

Today's Freshmen QBs are light years ahead of where they used to be. The reason most Freshmen can't play is they are replacing someone who is further along in the playback.

One brightspot for this season is that CB didn't go deep into the playback. It's open season next year, and Horn has the physical talent.

My prediction: Horn wins the staring position, Bazelak hits the portal in the Spring. Cook is #2. Drink goes hard after another blue chip QB for '23.
