I hear he is still a take and the chances are good... but it all changes fast these days.

yeah, I didn't take it that you were bragging at all. More power to you if you can and are willing to make donations to the program. As a fan, it's great when there is support for the program. I was just trying to be clear on the "cost" of making those donations as there may be people that misinterpret the math and do something that they don't understand. End of the day, you still take home less but it costs you much less to make the donation than at first glance.

Appreciate the support for the Mizzou program. But, you realize the tax brackets are "marginal". Let's say the 52% to 55% bracket change occurs at $750k and your taxable profit is $1M. Then you only pay the 3% increase on the amount above the 52% level or $250k in this case, not the full $1M. Since the increased tax rate is 3% on $250k the "extra" tax is $7.5k not $30k.

So, in your example of $760k with a $10k NIL deduction, you reduce your taxes by $5.5k (since it's all in the 55% bracket), not $30k since the amount below $750k remains in the same bracket(s). You paid $10k to get that deduction, so it cost you $4.5k to give Mizzou a $10k NIL. Awesome donation and much more economical to make it but it is still costing you money to make the donation.

Awesome bowl especially for me since I'm in Texas now. The Ohio State match-up will be fun. Great season!

Agreed. The locker room clearly has a solid team bond. Everyone seems bought in. Talent is required but not sufficient. I suspect based on recruiting rankings we are beating more talented teams on paper now. That’s about development, coaching, culture. Drink is still learning but he is a young coach and it’s nice to see he is open to adjustments. some coaches get stuck with the same mistakes forever. maybe he does too at some point but so far I think he is adapting more than most.

All good problems to have... I'd rather everyone want the Mizzou coaching staff rather than us needing to get rid of them. I would be more worried about the OC/DC trying to move up to head coach. I think Drink is from the midwest and if he builds a good program, Mizzou pays competitive, he'll likely stay.

This is a good team...

... they are better (and more fun to watch) than the 2014 team. 2007 / 2013 are the best in recent memory for sure, but this team should end up one win away from that level. Atmosphere is great, sell out crowds have been awesome.

I know a lot of people are not huge fans of Drink but I like the hire because he is more of a CEO which is what is needed today. Don't get me wrong, he's not perfect, but he is good at booster support, understands NIL landscape, facility upgrades, recruiting at a high level building a good coaching staff around him (Baker and Moore are top notch hires). He can get Mizzou back to their ceiling...

Throw in Gates on basketball with a top 5 class as well and it's a great time to be a Mizzou fan. MIZ...

Wingo 75% to Mizzou

Seems like these guys have heard something.

Kentucky - ? Lean toward W
South Carolina - W
Georgia - L
Tennessee - ?
Florida - W
Arkansas - W

That looks about right. I think Tennesse is vulnerable and they are at Faurot. I could see Kentucky as a loss and Tennesse a win to get to 9-3. A 9-3 season is a big step forward. Drink isn't perfect but we'll be far better off if he figures this out and succeeds vs starting fresh again. His recruiting is excellent and I think he adapts more than a lot of coaches. The conservative play calling is my biggest issue. The "gimic higher risk plays" (on-side to open Memphis, 2pt conversion against LSU on 1st TD) can be fun but those aren't the higher risk areas that pay off on the scoreboard and close out games.

I will be the first to admit that I didn’t think Dennis Gates was a great hire but I was wrong. Can’t believe how fast he has turned things around. This is a monster recruiting class. Another 5-star is leaning Mizzou too. Great times for the b-ball program… finally.

Big pickup for a huge class...

I think this could be more "keeping the cards close" again. I predict Brady is fine and starts but we'll see...
Drink is only 5 games into the 3rd year. I don’t think you can assess that he doesn’t have it based on this sample size in combination with the dumpster fire that Odom left. Odom was really clear, really fast that he wasn’t the guy. Drink’s recruiting is the best in the history of the program. He brought in back to back 4 star QB’s but the first obviously didn’t work out. It happens. But these freshman / new sophomores aren’t going to be ready day one no matter how many stars. At least it’s far from the norm. Is he perfect, no. Is it certain he won’t get there, far from it.

It was brutal watching the game yesterday, but I agree. It’s still too early to make a call to fire the HC. Odom left a total dumpster fire. It takes much longer in football and one or two year guys are not going to provide massive turn around even with the stellar recruiting. Those guys are still too new. I want to see Horn starting next year with Burden, Lovett, etc.
EXACTLY. I was cringing watching Cook take a knee.

re: Mizzou @ K State

I was upset with the play calling initially like everyone else. But after watching the 4 interceptions, it’s clear why the play calling is the way it is. That’s why Drink was in such a huge push for a transfer QB. He knew they didn’t have a QB ready.

The offensive line isn’t there yet either which doesn’t help our QB.

The defense isn’t great as they looked obviously but against 4 turnovers and really short fields, they did step up after Q1. it’s a step forward but not solved.

Odom left a total mess. I have been a Drink fan but he is going to have to have some on field success soon. It’s going to be a long season. If he can develop Horn, hold together another solid or better recruiting class, then maybe he has a chance next year.

Mizzou was a tough rebuild. He needs at least one more year to show on field results. His stellar recruiting classes are all Freshman / Sophmores. Everyone was ready to dump Pinkel early too. Maybe Drink isn’t the answer but can’t be flipping coaches too fast.

I think the situation is more complicated with the transfer portal. To an earlier comment, we have a QB room full of backups. If you throw in Cook, it looks like Drink is picking a "winner" and there is risk you lose QB's to the portal... and what if there is an injury. I bet Horn is the next true QB, but will he be ready as a freshman... doubtful. look at Lock. he needs the best backups possible until he can recruit a steady stream. I think he is managing the QB room to some degree. This is a whole new dimension to coaching until he can compete at a high level and has the backups across the board, it is a problem.

Yeah Pinson had just fouled out and with Smith out it hurt our ball control.
