You know who you are.

quote:

When I came here, everybody was happy to win a game. Now we're not happy to win a game anymore. We're not happy to win a game at all. We think we should win games by whatever. And I don't think that's fair to our players. Our players work their butt off to be the best they can be. And to get criticized for what they work hard to do, so that you can be entertained. So that you can enjoy and have pride and passion for what they accomplish and what they do. And they're not perfect; they're just college students. They go to school every day; they got to study. They have to run extra after practice when they miss study hall. C'mon. Give me a break. This is not professional football. These guys aren't getting paid to play here. They're representing you all. You should be proud and happy to support them and appreciate what they do and have some gratitude. And you know what else? Nobody wants to win worse than they do. Not me, not you, I don't care what kind of fan you are. Nobody wants to win more than the players that play. Nobody.

Would this be the wrong thread to mention that Slade the Muff Cat Blade, and his "super dependable hands" muffed another punt directly in front of his own endzone at the end of the first half this past week ?

It was nearly a gift wrapped 7 points right at the end of half, and Bama eventually won by 7 so that could have possibly been a significant play in the game.

Sorry, I had to do it.

We aren't bitching about the players, Nick.

It's your coordinators.

I remember when nobody ripped their arse like CNS did

Coach is a Jedi Master sports psychologist. Always giving the team exactly what they need. I hope it works.

That is exactly how I feel.

But you know, I appreciate the hardliners on here that demand absolute domination and perfection every game. I get it. Saban has always preached it, and that's what we expect.

But IMO when you can't appreciate a W, no matter how ugly it is, you've lost perspective. Perspective of the past, and the possible future.

This won't last forever, and what we've had the past 12 or 13 years is incredible, and we still have the opportunity to have a special year, even with all of the incredible player and coaching turnover the last several years.

Losing great coordinators and players can set a college football team back mightily, just look at LSU. The fact that we are where we are, and we've done what we've done so far this year is a testament to Saban's greatness, even if it doesn't seem like it.

I don’t think we’re any different than any other fan base. We’re always discussing and dissecting everything that happens in the game…positive and negative. That’s what we do as fans. We may be critical of the product on the field, but we respect and appreciate the players.

Remember, everything Coach Saban says is a message to the PLAYERS, and not necessarily to the persons it is addressed to.

I don't think Saban gives a rats arse what we think. I think he wants the players to know what we are saying.

Don't blame him at all. We've got the most spoiled fan base in the nation.

Bingo

For sure We've had a glut of riches under Saban. Not sure I agree with his comment about us just being happy to win a game when he got here though. We were in a historic down-time when he arrived, but Alabama fans have always expected more, and are not happy with "just winning a game". The program historically has won national championships before him, and will continue to do so after him (which hopefully is far in the future).

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with expecting greatness, but we need to appreciate the moment. Someday the GOAT will retire.

Maybe it's the fact he's gone from "dominate your opponent/make their arse quit" to now "just be happy we won the game."

I don't really care, but it's a change. Pete Golding is awful and for that opinion I make no apologies. He's making a million dollars a year or whatever...and isn't earning the paycheck. The defense was supposed to be experienced and carry the team this year... instead it's still missed assignments and miscommunication constantly.

I've been saying for many years that our 'fans' were gonna run Saban off and they will. Florida fans did it to Spurrier, winning 11 games every year wasn't good enough. But he ain't going to LSU if he's not wanting to deal with fans with ridiculous expectations but he may go to the NFL or retire.

If Bama wins it all this year, like I've said they will, about 90% of the Bama fans shouldn't be allowed to talk shite to other teams or celebrate it at all.

I know how much our 'fans' annoy me, I can't imagine doing all he's done and feeling completely disrespected.

Yeah, this is a bit of a mind-game of putting the media on him and taking heat off of his players but he means what he's saying and he's 100% correct and anyone taking issue with this, is the type of person he's talking about.

Not saying there aren't those of us that are spoiled but it ain't me. I just want us to win. If it's by one point that's fine. However win or lose I don't want us to look and play like we don't know what we are doing. That has happened multiple times this year and the last few years.

You are right, but it's hard to preach about playing to standard and never being complacent and never revelling in prior accomplishments as the rock standard of your program and then be upset when people who have been with you from day one are acting and critiquing the program the exact way you have since then.

I totally get his point and have come around to just being happy with the run we've been on and that a "down year" is this sort of team, but people only act this way because they've been trained by the master to do so.

To be honest I have no clue how to take his public comments this year. I can't tell if it's directed towards the team, he's getting softer, this team is just mentally unlike any team he's has, he knows this team is what it is, etc. I've given up trying to decipher it.

What?

He's not leaving due to fan expectations. Most fans will shite their pants before uttering a negative word about him. His message tonight had a specific audience and it sure as shite wasn't you or me.

Why not?

The word "fans" is short for fanatics. Without fans, this program would be nothing.

Again, the fans are not the intended audience for this outburst.

Yeah, you completely misread his intent.
