Did Harsin want this job partly due to his old pal and mentor Chris Petersen telling him that he is taking the LSU job once Ed O implodes? Two old friends teeing it up at the highest level in the SEC?

Petersen was hired by LSU AD Scott Woodward @ Washington and left right after Scott did. Scott is an LSU grad and HAD to know that Ed O was NOT gonna make it, long ago. Don’t be surprised to see Petersen land the LSU job.

Yep! And it would be just like Scott Woodward to throw out all the other smoke (with the help of Jimmy Sexton of course) while he has had his man all along. He is smart and knows how crazy volatile Ed O is so he is keeping things very close to the vest. But with the trust & friendship that CP & SW have and the culture change that is needed down there, makes perfect sense.

I doubt it. If anything Petersen might try to get Hars hired at Washington.

If Petersen does end up at LSU, I don't Harsin will be happy about it. Harsin has said he thinks Petersen is one of the all time greats.

Replying to myself.

I could also see a scenario where maybe Harsin would like to compete against his mentor every year. Maybe I am wrong about him being afraid - he might like going against his mentor and friend every season.

I think Petersen would be good for the SEC. He definitely would make LSU scary.

I think Petersen has other plans:

UW donors and supporters — Chris Petersen included — launch NIL company ‘Montlake Futures’ to provide opportunities ‘nobody else in the country can match’

LINK

Former UW football coach Chris Petersen will serve as the company’s ambassador and “Lifetime Transformation Leader.”

I thought the current conspiracy was that Peterson was going to hire Harsin as UW's next coach and we have to get into bidding wars for either duckman or the rajin cajun after Bill Clark turns us down again

Dang. We need a new uncle Milton to get something like this rolling at Auburn.

He was winning double digit games at Washington too. That dude is one hell of a coach.

only 3 years out of his 6 years...but he did a great job at Boise given his competition...
2014 Washington 8–6
2015 Washington 7–6
2016 Washington 12–2
2017 Washington 10–3
2018 Washington 10–4
2019 Washington 8–5

Those numbers include bowl games.

now look up what Washington was doing before him. Expecting him to come in his first two years and win double digit games is like expecting Harsin to do the same.

Any person not believing Petersen was one of the very best in the game is somebody who doesn't follow college football as a whole. Boise St. was knocking off big boys. Petersen won the Paul Bryant COY award twice. The first to ever do that.

Don't have too I know how they were or else they wouldn't have hired him.

I don't expect it out of a first year coach.

I am not saying he is/was a bad coach but he didn't maintain the double digit wins while he was there after he got to that point and he left and I know he stated medical issues with his child (if I remember correctly) but to say he would be the best candidate is debatable. Yeah he knocked off some of the big boys but decent coaches can get their teams to get up for that one big game a year. But to sustain it week after week? Much different.
