By the letter of the law, how was that targeting?

I think of “launching” as coming off your feet low to high and driving the crown of your helmet or forearm into a player’s head.

This was a player defending the possible throw and basically coming down chest to chest. Certainly was not the crown of the helmet.

Am I missing something? It seems like every diving tackle should be targeting if this one was.

I should be madder about this call than I am. Still moreso disgusted about everything else.

He launched upwards towards (he kinda jumped) the head/neck area

I don’t agree with it but that was their logic

Yeah, the game certainly didn’t come down only to this play.

With that said it was a huge momentum change, like the no call PI/holding in the Georgia game.

More importantly, it delegitimizes the sport.

The targeting flag against MSU that was picked up after the defender clearly drilled Hudson in the earhole with his shoulder while he was laid out diving for a catch was utter bullshite also.
Five 1st downs by penalty for MSU, and every one of them (1 targeting, 4 PI) was utter bullshite.

We sucked after midway of the 2nd Q, and deserved to lose, however, that refereeing crew should all be fired and never work another game.
They sucked worse than we did.

He jumped ....that is not part of the targeting rule. The rule states "Launch" He's a defensive lineman suddenly untouched The facemask to facemask was not the issue ...It's not a part of the rule. It clearly states crown of the helmet and launched.

The question becomes ....why in the world did Birmingham call to insert an unflagged penalty into the game?

Otherwise, why don't they call and insert an unflagged hold? Or facemask? Why not call each time a pass is thrown on a uncalled Pass Interference penalty?

If Birmingham called this in and bypassed the in stadium replay official ....then fire the in stadium official and call everything from Birmingham. Then tell the SEC and NCAA that the replay committee in Birmingham will insure that Alabama gets the advantage of every review.

It wasn't targeting and there isn't a single person outside of the jackass in the booth who thinks it was.

One of the things I'm so angry about is that I can't be as pissed off about that as I want to be because I don't want to come across like a bitch and pretend like that had anything to do with the fact we went from up 25 to down 16 in two quarter of football vs. Mississippi State at home.

You can’t hit someone. What do you think this is, football?! Pussification of America has ruined everything.

OK, I found the justification.
quote:

"The targeting rule is serving the game well, and has enhanced player safety," said Bob Nielson, chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee. "Because this is such a severe penalty, we are instructing replay officials to review plays to ensure that the required elements of targeting exist. We are also adding the ability for the replay official to stop the game when a potential targeting foul is not detected on the field."

I disagree with this rule that was added in 2016. To put this decision in the hands of the Birmingham Supper Club is outrageous,

We had zero momentum but those sacks were a little spark. That bullshite call from across the state effectively ended the game.

It wasn't targeting. Just like in the PSU game, we will get a letter from the SEC saying they missed the call.

We got screwed on multiple PI calls also.

I am sure Auburn will send in a full reel of bad calls today.

There is nothing that can be done about it now.

It was targeting cause of an Alabama official. They should not allow that to happen
