Saban has obviously surpassed him, but arguments could be made for coaches like Meyer, Swinney, and Carroll as well.

Some would say he owed much of his success to having a racially-integrated roster, but he had a ton of success at Bama prior to that happening in the early 70s.

Either way, what a badass John-Wayne of a dude.

Still a clear #2.

He won six national championships and 13 SEC championships in 25 seasons with Alabama. He also won 232 football games.

Hard to tell... because him and his coaching style has been dead for years.

There is no metric one could possibly use to make a good faith argument that any of those coaches are better than Bryant.

Bear is at worst second. He's a legend and a champion.

I mean he's still dead, but I'm guessing a dead Bear HC has OU and tOSU playing and ranking better given the talent and relative competition mismatch

Wilkinson, Switzer, McKay, Leahy, Hayes, Paterno, Bowden, Osborne are way above Meyer, Carroll, Swinney.

K. And all waaaaay behind what Bryant did over his career and what Saban has done in the most competitive era of CFB ever. Try and stay on topic... even if the latter half of the topic you addressed was asinine

Bear and Saban solidified Bama as #1 all time program in the modern (poll) era of CFB.

I could hypothetically see an argument for Meyer at #2 had he coached college ball every year since 2010 while maintaining a similar winning percentage and degree of success… but, he didn’t.

Saban and Bryant are #1 and #2 without a shade of doubt.

I wouldn’t say Frank Leahy is way behind; he’s the only other coach besides Saban to win 4 national championships in 7 years…

The fact that Bear Bryant negotiated integration at an SEC school and really didn't miss a beat still makes him the best coach IMO. Saban has been the GOAT relative to winning on an even playing field relative to the talent of the other competitors but Bryant's 70's teams were as good or better than his '60s teams while almost all other SEC schools took a dip while trying to catch up to schools and leagues that integrated earlier.

Bear Bryant is still the #1 alcoholic retard on my book.

Real role model we got here lol

You win the SEC and you are automatically in the playoff. Correct?

Coach Bryant won the SEC 8 out of 10 times in the 1970s alone. He finished with 13 titles in the SEC. Are we going to allow coach Bryant to be in a legitimate playoff 13 times?

In 15 seasons, coach Saban has won the SEC 7 times. All 7 times he was either in the BCS or 4 team playoff. Twice he was in a playoff without an SEC title. During the bowl season era, that never happened with Alabama. They needed that SEC title for browny points in the voting.

Different time and a different attitude and a completely different approach to every game you played back them.

One thing is for sure, the opportunities to win a title today are so much easier than a private vote based on a beauty contest.

Frank Leahy

Great coach, but the WWII era and immediate years that followed were some of the most politicized polls of all eras.

That said, the post-segregation era and , certainly, the BCS and CFP era with all of the world's parity and "Cincy" deserves a shot drama only add to the degree of difficulty over Leahy
