How do you guys handle always taking a backseat to big brother Bama? Serious replies only... It must be tough to know that you will never be anywhere near close to your in-state rival in athletic accomplishments. Sure Ole Miss has a few claimed natty's in football and they even have a co-sec west champ banner, but at least we are on similar levels as a whole. Does it eat at you constantly, is it always in the back of your mind? I know Auburn has good swimming and equestrian teams, so good on you guy for finding your niche.

This would be so much more entertaining if you could ask it to over 60 year old only Aubbies that lived through both the Bryant and Saban eras

That's a great point. Definitely a good idea for a case study.

ETA: Unfortunately, it can be quite hard to find any Aubie fans on this board anymore.

Bama hasn’t always been this good. Presently, Alabama leads head to head 47-37-1. This isn’t terrible if you think about how many good teams Alabama has had over the years, so yes there is presently a pretty big gap, the gap might shrink a bit when Saban retires - but even in such a time as Alabama’s dominance , we have beaten Bama more than any other team has.

I guess while we wait for Saban to retire, we will have to keep beating those lowly Mississippi schools to keep us from being at the bottom of the barrel.

I am here...but I am not your typical Auburn fan...

although all my family is from AL - I was born and raised in South Louiaiana - and still live here. So my feelings for Bama are not like those of my Auburn friends - just like I am sure they don't have the same feelings towards LSU that I do lol

What’s it like not winning anything ever?

“Despite them having 3 more national titles, 5 more conference titles, and 13 more bowl game appearances, we are on similar levels.”

lol

As an Auburn fan I don’t really care because nobody can touch Bama football. They are a powerhouse and it is what it is. I’m perfectly fine being a fan of a historically top 15ish program. I would feel much worse being a fan of, say, Mississippi state, where the gap between in state programs is actually achievable, yet my program still constantly fails.

This was my worry when I started this thread, that no Auburn fans would truly answer my questions. It has got to be weighing on you guys, come on, consider this a free therapy session.

Solid response, thank you for your honesty and participation. Doesn't it feel better to let it out?

Auburn certainly has a respectable showing in the series, but I think the OP's question has more to do with the trophy case than the series record.

I think most Auburn fans can take a bit of hope Year after year though of knowing that in those seasons where we are able to field a half way decent team, that we always will have some kind of chance to win the game - that is why so many Auburn fans love Kick Six - because we can’t compare our trophy cases, but we can look at those great past performances where we were able to win

I have been in the Palmero Center. At AU our baseball team did not have to build us an indoor facility. Also we do not have to hang plaques celebrating our few bowl wins and no other type championship on the wall.

I cannot fathom sitting any of my children on my lap and explaining to them that the biggest tradition of our supremely mediocre program is ringing cowbells.
