What direction is Auburn's football program trending?

What does the future look like for Auburn football? They fired a coach that won a national championship as as OC, then took them to the title game, had no clear replacement for him, and ended up making a "so so" hire.
More concerning, recruiting has taken an absolute nose dive. Currently ranked 13th in the SEC, only ahead of Vandy. Georgia is doing a better job of locking down the state, FSU is getting some top ranked guys, Bama is Bama...I can't help but think Auburn's talent is about to severely drop off.
What am I missing? It seems like the trajectory of the program is trending downwards.

Harsin can coach - Auburn is tough, with good defense and a diverse offense. The real question is can he recruit

Go take a look at what UCF is doing with that outrageously tough schedule. Maybe take a look at the OL that 4-eyed frick left us. You saw it this weekend.

I think the proper word is stagnant

When you get past the mid-tier teams, not that good.

I like Harsin a lot. The only negative at all is the current recruiting but he is going to turn that around. In no way is Auburn trending down at all.

Same record as Auburn?

Auburn has 3 losses to top-25 teams.
UCF lost to Navy. You really think that's the same?

Yes. He's not operating with the same talent that Auburn has.
But that's beside the point. Do you feel good about the direction of your program? Recruiting is the lifeblood of programs and it seems Harsin doesn't have it on the trail

Not far off. Did you see the recruiting class Gus left for 2021?

Absolutely.

When is signing day?

While 247 crystal balls aren't perfect, y'all don't lead for one uncommitted composite 4 star.

Unfortunately you're mostly correct. The only way we're going to be able to remain competitive is if we can crush it in the transfer portal and give the staff time to show they can develop talent and relationships in this part of the country.

Its trending upward in my opinion. They have a good HC. The rest falls in place.

quote:There is a QB on another roster that is currently a projected 1st Rd 2022 NFL draft pick that Gus ran off. There was never an emphasis on recruiting and developing the OL. Gus had a guy who would have been better utilized as a DT playing TE and Wildcat QB. The roster mismanagement was an epic failure.
He's not operating with the same talent that Auburn has.

The only point that needs to be made in this situation is that in his last 2 years at Auburn, Malzahn did not sign one single OL out of high school. It was all transfers and juco guys. And that is why our OL is getting eaten alive by the DL's of uga, A&M and probably bama.
I have to make an edit here - it was OT's, not all OL that Malzahn didn't sign in his last two years. Not as bad, but still, as important as those two spots are on the OL, there's no excuse to go two years without pulling any from high school.

It will get slightly worse next year unless the portal is good to them, then starts trending upward after that.

For the immediate future they look pretty good. I mean, the teams seems to have more energy and a definite direction.
Seems like they are doing ok.
Who knows what the future holds for any of our programs.

They've lost 4 or more games every year since the fluke year. So I'd say they are going to stay about the same they've been. Lots of 9-4 and 8-5.

Auburn football doesn't do "trends" there sport. They are a random walk, with each day's direction being independent of the prior.
