How lucky were we to get CKS as Head Coach?

I mean the debates about CMR were going for years and once we pulled the trigger there were a lot of choices. Most of the names in consideration were busts. We got CKS under mixed responses.

He recruits like a madman, has gotten us into the SECCG consistently and now he’s us in position to win it all again. The man has taken us to the next level. Many of our peers made changes and now are screwed having to figure out what to do.

THIS is what we all wanted. THIS is what we were all bitching for under the last few years of CMR. ENJOY this. We’re one of a few teams that get to live through this type of success. Not many do. All of our peers wish they had what we have.

These are glorious times!

It wasn't luck, imo. We weren't going to get rid of a coach that had turned our fortunes to average 10 wins a year unless the heir apparent was all but locked up.

When we let CMR go, we had CKS all lined up. That was the plan and the plan worked. No one had done this in the history of the SEC better than Georgia and you can credit our administration at the time. Saw what we needed and sealed the deal.

Now we are fortunate Kirby has turned out as well as he has, but all credit in getting him goes to our admins at the time that knew what they wanted and knew how to sell it and bring it home.

Watch out. You’re implying that McGarity did something right. That’s blasphemous.

I've met KS in person and he was a very nice guy. After meeting him it was easy to understand why he's such a great recruiter. I love that he's relentless on the recruiting trail and not lazy like dipshit Dan Mullen.

I think KS just has a drive that Richt never had. Plus, being an alum of UGA and the HC makes it more special.

It's not like he pulled the trigger after we lost the SECCG game and we hadn't won a SECC in 10 years, not to mention we had almost lost to Georgia Southern and were humiliated by Bama at home.

The big boys who write the checks had enough. If only McGarity had gone out with em.

ETA Lets not forget the SC was also about to pull the trigger on Kirby...which made em move a little faster.

I remember hearing scuttlebutt, who knows how true, that mcgarity really wanted mullen based on their time together at florida but the big money people basically said frick that we're hiring kirby.

I can't imagine being saddled with mullen, yeesh. Especially since if we were it would mean Kirby was at AU or SC right now.

Howdy Doody wanted Mullen.

Thank Christ that Payne & Co. wanted Kirby and not that buffoon.

McGarity was a moron. Glad he's gone.

Dukes & Bell on 92.9 were very pro-Herman.

Oops. They've long realized that they were wrong.

He's our Steve Spurrier. And say what you will about the man, but he was a helluva ball coach. Kirby knew what it was like to lose to Florida repeatedly, much like Spurrier understood the opposite experience. And CKS has come in with a similar mission to not ever see that sort of shitshow take place while he's in charge.

Were you at the game yesterday?

Can you confirm how loud Kirby's F-bomb was when it went out through the stadium PA system via the refs microphone.

On tv it sounded like it actually echoed. He yelled at Stet "Toss the fricking ball!!" or something like that

The ironic thing is that if CMR doesn’t run Spurier’s arse out of coaching with that all time great whopping, the USCe job doesn’t come open and force McGarrity’s hand to go after CKS and to have to fire Richt so abruptly. So beating the snot out of the ball coach caused CMR a quick exit.

I read article where Stet said he was yelling at him when it happened because he held on to the ball too long

it was noticeable. People texted me later that it was picked up on TV as well but it was immediatley apparent that he got picked up on the mic of the ref he was next to. You couldn't really make out specfically waht was said during the moment though.

Also, off topic, there was a plane flying a let's go brandon banner around the stadium a few times. Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere.

We had a completion for a 1st down called back because a receiver was covered. Coach Smart politely asked the WR to note their position at the line of scrimmage in the future.
