I do not think bail is a form of punishment, more a flight risk insurance policy. I do not think Ruggs will go on the lamb.

Not a flight risk, but absolutely could be a self-harm risk. What is the precedent in NV?

Watch how fast his lawyers work around fraudulent conveyance laws to transfer assets to family members/third parties to protect them in the mean time from a civil suit.

Agreed. I was surprised that it was only this much though. I would have expected a half mil or more.

Did he have it? He makes $4 mill/year. He's played like half a season. Between taxes and blowing through money like dumbasses tend to do he's probably broke.

The prosecution tried to get a $1M bond.

Saw that as well. I am surprised they let him make bond for $850,00 less.

Yeah they always ask for the max. The judge may have a guideline on it though. I think he's going to get the max sentence which can be more than 10 years. Probably not a flight risk but you never know. He may have nothing to lose right now. Career is over.

It was reported he owns a $1.1 million dollar home a few blocks away from the accident. He was also driving a Corvette so he definitely has something to play around with.

$150k is not a small bond for a class b felony. He has no priors, is not a flight risk, has ties to the community, etc. Bonds aren’t even punitive, as in you get the money back if you show up to Court. There wouldn’t be a rational reason to set it at a million other than because maybe he has it in the bank which isn’t the point of bond.

Did you pay a bondsman? Because you pay them whatever percent, they pay your bond, and they keep your money.

I've seen a 100k higher bond for a lesser crime

People keep talking about the flight risk analysis, and that's valid, but a judge also considers how likely the defendant is to commit additional crimes while out on bail. Based on Ruggs' background, I assume the judge wasn't concerned with him committing additional crimes while out on bail (especially with the additional bail terms placed on him (i.e. no drinking, no driving, ankle monitor, etc.)).

Now would you be saying that if it was your young son or daughter who got killed by a drunk driver doing 150+ mph?
