247 Class Rankings?

Does anyone know how many recruits are counted towards the rankings? I know at 1 point Rivals only did the top 22 guys in the class. 247 similar?

247 counts them all.
Their formula is weird as shite though.
In Alabama's case we have a 4-star DE worth 8.39 points.
If he were to flip to Missouri his value would be 16.33 points.

That is weird. I guess the more commits you get the less each ones point value becomes?

Yes and no.
Their value is based on their position in each school's individual class.
So a guy ranked #10 for Alabama's class may be ranked #5 for another team, therefore increasing his value for said class.

That’s probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. He doesn’t magically become better just by committing to Arkansas instead of Alabama.

Yeah, I don’t understand the logic here
Avg star ranking would seem the better measure

I agree, but that is their formula.
If a team has 7 five stars their lowest ranked five star is rated significantly lower than the first 3.
It is what it is.

The only way it makes sense (and I’m not sure it does even then) is if you try to look at how helpful the class as a whole is to the school. If Bama had an entire class of 4 stars, their talent level would decline. If Mizzou had that class, it would be the most significant thing to ever happen to the program.
Let’s say you have three 5 star QBs in a class (exaggerating for example) How many 5 star QBs can play at one time? Sure there is a depth element to it but clearly there are some diminishing marginal returns in play here.

So if we sent you a mid-3 star, it would make the value of your higher recruits retain point values better? Sounds like a win-win. Send that 4* DE our way.

The reason the rankings seem weird is to make middle of the road classes look better. If they counted the 18th best player in Georgia's class the same as the 3rd best in Missouri's because they have similar rankings, it would become obvious that the talent difference is so large that there is no reason to follow recruiting if you are a have not.

Which is why I had no idea how their rankings formula worked and didn’t even care until now lol

The 247 scoring system.
If a player commits to an SEC school his rating increases 20 percent, if the SEC school is Alabama it increases 40 percent.
If a player commits to a Big Ten school the player rating drops 20 percent, if that Big Ten school is Ohio State the rating drops 40 percent.

I remember Burks was a five star and watching him during a high school game against Praire Grove, he was well deserving of it. But he didn't play any head games with the recruiting process and then when committed to Arkansas, he was bumped down to a four star.

He was a five star early in recruiting. He dropped a lot because he didn't go on any visits or rarely did and was undecided. This was after his sophomore year.

NIL deals and the Rattler/OU experience I see $$$ getting splashed to these recruiting "experts".
Having that 5* status in the past was seen as hype but wasn't resulting in huge monetary sponsors. For Rattler the 5* status and the recruiting hype behind going to the OU QB whisperer after Mayfield and Murray did wonders for him.
For a long while team subscription to sites like 247 have played a major factor in who goes up in the national rankings and who drops over the recruiting cycles. It's a business model after all.

Well the beat downs you guys are taking lately kinda prove that out to be worthwhile.

That would make sense if you were doing like an ELO system for ranking teams with that data (which maybe they are working on that in the background?)
For recruiting rankings though, it just seems dumb.
