I think Max Johnson is showing he’s good enough to win with

Ignore the ill advised behind the back no look.
The problem is the OL, RBs, WRs outside of Boutte are average to below average. A bunch of stars with no development or coaching up.
Even if Brennan is better (he probably is a little) I can’t see much improvement coming.
What are the new season expectations?
Thoughts on Max?

Well, yeah, but we’ve always known that.

I don’t think Max has it. Hopefully that was first game of season mistakes and he corrects it…but I doubt it. Myles can’t get back fast enough.

Myles is the better QB but our line is so fricking atrocious that Max is the better option

Brennan will never play for LSU again.

Max is average right now. Tough kid who is a solid scrambler and fairly accurate when he knows where to go with the football. Unfortunately for us, his ability to navigate the pocket and work through his progressions isn’t very good. Way too much drifting aimlessly in the pocket and tucking and running if the first 1 or 2 options aren’t open quickly.
WRs are fine. Boutte is a stud and the other guys are solid, if unspectacular.
OL sucks, no doubt about that.
RB unit was unimpressive on Saturday but we were down Emery and Goodwin. Bigger problem is the way they were used. Very unimaginative run game, no passes thrown their way, etc.

Brennan has the talent but he's brittle.
Better ride it out with max until nussmeier is ready.
Offensive line needs better coaching. Better blocking schemes will allow for some success.
A big talented TE would aid In blocking for the QBs on his blind side and offer a reliable short field receiver.
Running backs need to put more heart into their efforts.
Defensive line is pretty good and sound. LBS need better coaching. May be they're playing out of position. Coaching. Dbs????? Coaching.
So, the quick fix is better coaching, film study, schemes correct positioning.
LSU'S main and perhaps the root of all that is wrong on the plains is:

Watch him closely: he picks his receiver before the play even starts, he'll stare him down for 3 seconds before moving on to the rest by which point, in the UCLA game at least, he's getting hit. There are open guys but he's missing them.
John Parker Wilson used to do the exact same thing.

Everything about that game was bad. Our OL was manhandled, which led to zero run game and bad pass protection. Max didn't do much with the few times he had a pocket, which can probably be attributed to the fact he was running for his life most plays. To have any prayer rest of the season our OL has to figure something out.

The D was simply pushed around and otherwise uninterested. That was the difference in the game.
That said, the Pistol Pete no look pass was beautiful
